Which places have you looked at? We looked all over Essex but decided on Kent.
What style place do you want? Barn? Hotel? Manor House? :o)

We looked at Parklands first; very nice but imho over-priced. Very nice staff though. Have you been to visit it? They were willing to negotiate with us but still came out at £12,000 for 70 people :os
What about changing the time of year/day you get married? :o)

We went online, found a site with ALL venues in Essex, copied it, paste into excel and then colour coded each venue (red - no, amber - maybe, green - yes). As you have enough time to research, it is worth doing. We also liked Orsett Hall and Friern Manor. Now is the time to get to their wedding fayres too :o)
My venue is the Wedding House on Channel 4 tonight - I fell off my chair when I found out lol! :o)

Not been to Parklands Claire - all I can say is if it is 100% perfect and you really cant get past it then basically push them for their best deal and maybe be prepared to be flexible with day of week, months etc to maximise what you can get from then. Although I would say go out and visit as many as possible because sometimes pictures dont do much justice but actually being there or meeting the staff etc make things entirely different! xxx

I visited it in February when it snowed. It was beautiful. However, I found the rooms quite small and I didn't like the columns that split the ceremony room (I thought they would get in the way). I also wasn't keen on the fact that you had to pay for all the bedrooms and then ask your guests to pay you back (your guests can't book on a room by room basis). Go to their wedding fayre;

parklands do last minute deal< if you love it that much would you not consider getting everything read and booking a few months before. Ye old plough house, in brentwood caters for 170 to seat down. they are quiet reasonable. crondon Park golf and county club in stock can cater for 230 to sit down meal. Braxted park canters for 300. Stock Brook manor Banqueting suit can cater for 250 dining guest and 300 evening guests, and i planned a wedding they this year and got them doew from £75 per head to £48 a head include welcome drinks. Fiver lakes Hotel, Maldon. The king arthur suite holds 240. Orsett halls (where i am getting married), the graham taylor suit can cater for 300. I will add you hunni, i am from basildon and am a wedding planner so might be able to help you a little more. x
CommentAuthorMrsC.Wade2B
not too bothered about accomodation for guests will find a hotel nearby if people choose/need to stay. thanks hun might check out that open evening :-), figured if i saved hard for this all the rest of the stuff i need for my wedding i can try doing on the cheap like borrowing a family/friends posh car, finding someone to do my flowers and so on and so forth, it'll be the only way to save some money xxx

Claire, what is your budget for your venue? It 'should' be around 40% of your total budget if this is both where you will get married and have your reception. I know Parklands, The Fennes, Braxted Park and Vaulty Manor were all out of out budget for a Saturday in 2012 and our budget is £15,000. You should definitely go and look before setting your heart on a venue as you may find a 'cheaper' one that you love and then you can splash out on other things. I always think of the woman on Four Weddings who had her wedding on a Tuesday out of season with only 30 guests JUST so she could afford to have it at The Fennes - hardly anyone turned up for the evening and they all left early :o(

it will cost just under £20k to get married at parklands thats without any other important wedding stuff, h2b wants to wait before deciding anything to see what we've saved from now until before we marry, he dont wana say yes to any venue or pay a deposit if upon saving we dont have enough money and lose whats paid on deposit xxx

Have you actually visited the venue yet? You said before you hadn't. I was disappointed when I saw what I thought was going to be my dream venue. It turned out although the rooms are amazing we would have had to share the bar with the rest of the hotel guests and that at the side of the castle they had built a horrid 1970's monstrosity that was really ugly. Also the drive up there wasn't that nice and the staff were really rude. I would check it out to see if you really do have your heart set on it and if you still feel that way look at getting everything you need for the wedding and then get them to ring you if they have a cancellation. Its the only realistic way you could do it.

We're getting married at the fennes near Braintee - we fell in love with the place the moment we saw it, its a georgian manor house and is within your budget and has 8 rooms to stay in, or theres a Premier inn within 10 minutes - i'd recommend it!!!
CommentAuthorAttention seeker :)

We looked at The Fennes. I LOVED the marquee but I wasn't keen on the rooms as they are not all en-suite. Great that there's a Premier Inn close by. Always good to offer an alternative place to stay :o)

Tinsel - we wern't so worried about the two rooms without the ensuite - we're paying for the rooms, so the least my brother and H2Bs sister can do is share a bathroom - he he!!!! (im not that cheeky really, its just we loved the venue, so that seemed a small price to pay!!!)

Nope - that probably did sound a bit wrong didn't it!!! My bro got married last month and sister-in-law 2b is having a baby the month before our wedding - so setting them up would be highly inappropriate!!!!!!

bit late i know but if you haven't found anywhere yet, have a look at the white hart wedding barn in great yeldham, it's gorgeous! It had just been awarded four stars for the hotel and two rosettes for the food (not far off michelin star level) And has some really good package prices. well worth viewing, especially when they have a wedding fayre/open day so you can see it when it's set up.
