So after two and half years of planning/stress/boring people silly with all the little details, we FINALLY did it!
I finished work on the Thursday and dashed off to get my nails done (which were a complete disaster on honeymoon - Shellac couldn't take it and they chipped off less than a week later!) and then stayed up till gone midnight finishing the Order of the Days. Friday morning was spent running around like a headless chicken picking up last minute things for honeymoon and finish getting thank you gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Then we headed over to the hotel where everyone was staying and met up with my bridesmaids and lots of family members for drinks and dinner (I was feeling slightly worse for the wear the following morning I have to admit!). It was very weird, everyone being in the same place as my family lives all over the place so it's very rare to see them all at the same time. However the weirdest part was saying bye to Chris at the end of the night as he was going back to our flat - we rarely spend a night apart and I can never sleep when he's not with me so I then got an awful night's sleep!
The following morning went so quickly, I can't even tell you. We had a deadline of half 1 which I thought was pretty manageable. But seriously, it went like that. The hairdresser got to us for 10 and with four of us, she didn't finish until 12. Then I was doing my own make up, but luckily my maid of honour stepped in to help as I couldn't concentrate on it! The flowers turned up shortly afterwards (and they looked amazing!) and then we barely had time to eat some toast, before I had to get my dress on. That proved to be a bit of a nightmare - it had a low back and I had struggled to find a bra to work with it. In the end I got this bra strap extender that wraps around your stomach, but I stupidly didn't try it before the wedding...! So there we are at 1.15 in the bathroom trying to get it to work (it was slightly too loose but I just rolled with it in the end!)
We had run out of money to book a proper wedding car, so turned to a well-known mini cab provider instead... What a nightmare. He tried to drop us off at the wrong entrance and then he (understandably) couldn't wait around despite dropping us off earlier than planned! Luckily Chris' brother who was driving us from the ceremony to the reception came to the rescue and let us sit in the car until it was time for the ceremony. The pre-ceremony interview was a bit bizarre (seriously they ask you questions and you think 'I'm beyond nervous, how do you expect me to know this?!') Oh and one of our readers got stuck in traffic and only turned up at the last minute (phew!)
I lost it a little bit in the corridor waiting to go in, but my dad was brilliant and kept me calm. Chris was soo nervous - I'd never seen him like that before and we both almost lost it during the vows (my friend's son and his dad had made a bet as to who would cry first - me or their mum (my friend) and the dad lost £20 after saying I wouldn't cry!!). Chris managed to put my ring on upside down (doh!) but it was all good in the end.
The reception was brilliant - the food was lovely (even if there was too much!) and the staff were fab as well. We made a point of going around every single table and saying thank you to everyone and making sure everything was okay and it was lovely to speak to everyone. The first dance was a bit awkward (especially as my feet were killing!) but it was soon over and then the shoes were off and didn't come back on again...! I literally didn't leave the dance floor for the rest of the evening (Chris had to drag, and I mean drag, me away at one point for a bit of alone time outside!)
Then it was midnight and time to go - and I'm not even joking when I say I don't know who has the energy to get down and dirty on their wedding night...! We just lay in bed chatting about the day and evening, had a cup of tea and tried to get to sleep (another horrific night's sleep due to the ridiculously loud air-con and the 6.15 fire alarm...!)
My advice to anyone about to get married? The morning goes so quickly that even if you plan plan plan, you'll end up rushing around right before you leave. Take some time with your new husband/wife even if it just 5 mins outside going 'omg we're married?!?!' And don't worry about the little things!
If I could change anything? I would have had our wedding cupcakes as the main dessert rather than waiting until the evening buffet as they got forgotten. I would have tried to get a few more shots with the photographer of just me and Chris. Oh and I would have brought some flats for the evening!
But now it's time for married life - we got back from honeymoon yesterday (incredible 10 days in Monaco - seriously unbelievable!) and now trying to keep my cool trying to get my name changed on everything (how is it possible that it's easier to change my bank account name than a certain supermarket's loyalty card?! grr!)
Good luck to everyone who is getting married this week/month/year/next year/next year after and so on. And thank you so much to everyone who helped me out with all my wedding questions/stresses - you are the best! xx
