Warm, friendly, interested, enthusiastic & willing. Keen to listen to your story and then create and weave a ceremony just right for you both.
Originating from a Somerset town in the West Country, a move to Bristol to do my nurse training in 1979 was the beginning that led to this new adventure of becoming a Celebrant.
My intensive care nursing career led to taking a post, twenty-five years ago, as a Transplant Coordinator in a local Bristol hospital. This was the area of nursing for me! It felt just right and was an area of medicine that was still relatively new, developing rapidly and progressive. Speaking at conferences was a regular occurrence... and i loved sharing knowledge, ideas and forward plans.
This feeling lasted until retirement three years ago. I then fulfilled a long term dream of qualifying as a wedding and funeral celebrant with the United Kingdom Society of Celebrants. Since then, a return to nursing to help with the local mass vaccination programme has taken my life to a new direction, but which enables concentration on Celebrant work as a main priority.
Enough of the nursing history……
Nature is a big inspiration for me and
Being outside in nature is a calming, uplifting and vital part of my life. And this personally means there is no better way to enjoy the elements and Mother Earth’s offerings than to get in a Cornish Pilot Gig boat and row on the sea or the beautiful Bristol Harbour. A local club has been an extremely precious find and to be able to be an active, involved member is a real treat. Trips to regattas around the West Country and meeting up with old and new friends, whilst getting exercise and fresh air brings a feeling like no other. The challenges rowing creates are tough, but good fun and really brings home the true meaning of teamwork. The essence of a good outcome in all areas of life….
Outdoor ceremonies are my favourite and luckily these have formed the majority of the ceremonies I have done for couples so far. Farms with wellies, rain, cows and accompanying hazards... barns with leaky rooves, teepees decked in homegrown wildflowers especially for the occasion. Having said that, Bristol is blessed with fabulous places to have a wedding ceremony - old churches made good with fabulous interiors, woodlands, open spaces, fantastic iconic views from many places.... we are truly lucky. The choice is enormous and there is always something to suit every couple wanting a ceremony that is perfect for them.
To meet new people is an experience I thrive off. Getting to know them and their stories of life which brought them to where they are now is so fascinating. Listening to these stories and recreating them in a ceremony will be an absolute honour and exciting challenge that will be taken on with great relish. The experience and skills acquired from previous life roles, will help me be able to offer a personalised ceremony that will be just the ticket.
Together we can create and develop a unique, tailored, bespoke ceremony that is exactly right for yourselves, the occasion and the people involved. We can devise a ceremony that is perfect in every way, reflecting the involved character/s lives, hopes, dreams and experiences.
Everyone loves a good story - so let's tell it together in a way that can be uplifting without losing respect, if a funeral, or in a light-hearted way if a family celebration ceremony- whatever or however you wish it to be.

Kay Hamilton - Bristol Wedding & Funeral Celebrant
Meet the Key Person

Hi, I'm Kay an award winning Celebrant from Bristol. Together we can create a unique, personalised and beautiful ceremony. Originating from a Somerset town I moved to Bristol, trained as a nurse and enjoyed a long nursing career in the NHS. I stayed there for 25 years! Since then I joined the mass Covid vaccination programme in north Bristol, which I loved, and met more wonderful NHS workers and patients. Vital to all these nursing roles were public speaking (TV and radio), kindness, empathy, sympathy, understanding, listening and comforting, all of these skills being transferrable to my Celebrant role. I have 3 children, one grandchild (so far....) a husband and a labradoodle called Arnie. Cheesy but true....being outside in nature - be it on the ocean, amidst mountains, valleys or woods is vital to me. It brings a sense of calm, connection and is a necessary part of my life. One of my favourite things to do is pilot gig rowing for Clevedon - trips to regattas around the West Country and meeting meeting old and new friends, getting exercise and fresh air brings a feeling like no other. Having now been a celebrant for 3 years, in March 2023 I was overjoyed to win the UKSOC 'Celebrant Of The Year' award for the South West. Nominations came from ceremony-goers and I was over the moon! As previously mentioned - a longstanding nursing experience has helped me to develop the attributes of kindness, empathy, understanding and a real sense of fun, so I will tailor any ceremony to fit your needs. Weddings and Vow Renewal Enabling two people to declare their love is a real honour, and I'll be privileged to be a part of your journey. Your ceremony, whether an intimate affair or a bigger celebration, will encapsulate your one-of-a- kind story. Together, we can create vows and ceremony elements that are all about you, and we can discuss any specific customs or traditions. You ready? Let's go....!!!
