Lower House Farm

Information For Lower House Farm

Passionate about creating memorable events in the Black Mountains with great food at the heart of what we do. Our woodfired kitchen is the centre of the wedding feats using seasonal ingredients.

Nestled in the Olchon valley, and surrounded by the foothills of the Black Mountains, Lower House Farm is a place that you can come to escape the world outside and reconnect with nature.

Food and Drink are at the heart of everything we do at Lower House Farm. Our kitchen team is lead by Jake Townley, who trained at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and who has worked in multiple Michelin Star and award winning kitchens.
At Lower House Farm food and drink is what we do. We are a young but experienced team made up of passionate chefs and hospitality experts. We serve high welfare, natural meat and seasonal produce from right here on our farm and the local area, cooked simply and served generously. From arrival canapes to your feasting banquet and evening food, our team of chefs will keep you and guests well fed with food from our wood fired kitchen.
The produce on our menus is almost all from right here on the farm and the surrounding area, cooked over the open flames of our outdoor, wood-fired kitchen. Grass-fed lamb and beef and free-range pork, all from our native breed animals. We source other ingredients from a range of local and organic producers, which are then prepared respectfully and served generously by our in-house team of chefs.
We are a first generation farming family, and we do things quite differently, farming with nature, slowly and traditionally but with a forward thinking attitude. Our native breed livestock live happily outdoors on our mature rich pasture, with minimal intervention and minimal impact on our environment, allowing for natural ecosystems and other wildlife on the farm to thrive. All of the produce from the farm either goes on our menus or in to Monthly Meat Boxes from the other part of the family business, Wild by Nature.

At the heart of the farm, the charming 17th Century oak-framed barn has been lovingly restored, a truly special venue for weddings. The barn can seat up to 120 people for your reception on long wooden tables and sheepskin adorned benches. Come evening, there is capacity for up to 150 guests to dance the night away. The super friendly team will make you feel at home and help you plan a day and feast to remember. Take a stroll to their own secret waterfall, play lawn games in the huge field bordering the Olchon River, have photos with the dramatic mountain backdrop and even toast marshmallows around the firepit come sunset. Have your ceremony in our beautiful registered barn or out on the lawn under our spectacular old oak tree for a magical, wild wedding. Your wedding feast will be prepared in our woodfired outdoor kitchen. We serve high welfare, natural meat and seasonal produce from right here on our farm and the local area, cooked simply and served generously. Camp on site by the river or book a stay at Old Great Marlborough country farmhouse a short drive away and extend your stay in this slice of paradise that little bit longer. Make the most of the in-door pool and woodfired hot tub.

Beautiful venue
We were blown away when we looked round Lower House farm. They have really made it so great for a wedding venue as well as being a lovely local working farm. The ceremony space and the hidden waterfall are two features that really make this venue stand out.

Supportive and helpful
Emily has been so supportive during our planning, which has been entirely during the pandemic. They are flexible and accommodating and understand the stress of these times. I can’t wait to get married there. Fingers crossed the roadmap is on track!
