    Hi all

Feel a bit stupid for this but I can't find the answer online.

So I found out we can have a religious ceremony at our venue (yay!!) Has anyone had a priest come to perform the religious ceremony in a venue rather than a church. (has to be a priest not a minister)

Thank you for your help :)

I'm not sure to be honest but I would guess the best person to speak to would be your local priest. We got married in a church but I would guess the principles are the same/ you have to meet them a few times to talk about the wedding/ you'all have your banns read etc. If they aren't able to help though I'' sure they would be more than happy to point you in the direction of someone who can :-) xxxx

I thought a minister could marry you anywhere in Scotland

a minister can but a minister is protestant rather than cathlic and we would prefer a priest but they only seem to allow religious ceremonies to take place in a church!

Spoke to our local priest he is very strict so theres no budging, will try a couple more if not ill give up lol xx

I think Catholic Priests are quite strict and rigid and I've never heard of any marrying outside of the church . I got married in a Catholic Church and we had to go through a series of wedding preparation classes before he was satisfied that we were doing it for the right reason. Good luck xx

Sorry to hear you can't get what you're looking for. The RC church is rather strict about marriage, it should be a full marriage ceremony in church or they will not perform it, plus you have to attend marriage preparation classes beforehand. Hubby and I got married in a Catholic Church but I am a practising catholic so it was important that I married "in the eyes of God" and had communion on my wedding day.

Other Christian denominations I believe though are more relaxed about venues and blessings.

yes i didnt realise the RC church was so strict! I had researched and apparently it looked as though it was fine to have a blessing the day after in the church, but that priest said it wasnt.

Im not too fussed but my h2b's family would like it to be a religious ceremony. i think theyll just have to accept it wont be! x

For Catholics generally it is important that the actual marriage ceremony itself is religious so a civil ceremony followed by a blessing simply won't do. I personally would not have wanted that for myself, it was basically RC full marriage ceremony or no wedding because for me it wouldn't have felt right any other way.

yea i understand that :), we arent practicing Catholics and Christians so its not as important, but i would have still liked the religious element in there somewhere.

I'm guessing that the priest will have picked up on that. For them religious aspect of a marriage is core and for those who it really is important to be the focus of the ceremony..................rather than just a nice to have. If someone isn't practising the question is asked why they would want the ceremony to be religious.

we were always practicing but life just got busy as it does so we dont go as much as we use to. He was very happy for us to go ahead and book for him to perform our ceremony in the church, but we have already booked our venue which we would love to get married in. Its not as important for us to be married in the church, but we are still religious so we would like religious vows, obviously we cant have them in a civil ceremony.

We can have a minister come to our venue t perform a religious ceremony but my h2b would rather a priest, or just a civil ceremony.

I see. Shame that you booked your venue already but as you're not really too bothered about not having a religious ceremony maybe it's for the best.

Just enjoy the process of planning what you have booked.
