Can I just ask if anybody is giving a donation to the church as well as paying for the ceremony? To have our wedding at the church it is £600 plus £60 if we want an organist and £60 more if we want the church heated. Is it expected for me to make a donation on top of that? thanks in advance x

The donation for our church is included in the cost which we don't mind. I think it depends on the cost of the ceremony as that is set by the Church of England and there is nothing that can be done to change that but obviously some churches will charge a little more for their upkeep. I think it is down to you personally but by the sounds of it they would be asking for a donation on top.

thanks Stacey, it's just I have asked about and I have been told it's a lot to pay so I'm not so sure, do you have any idea how much of a donation is expected?

The current fee for our church is 645 so we are expecting to pay between 650-700 by 2018 we won't know for definite until we get the confirmation pack next year. I would speak to someone at the church and as if there is a minimum/maximum amount. I am not sure how much but I have seen people pay around 60-80 for a donation. I know its a lot both me and OH were shocked at how much it was but the Vicar kindly explained the basic fee is out of his hands as it is decided nationally.

yes, i have looked into that myself, it's set by the church something agency or something ahaha it is steep, i think a lot of people still live in the days where it was a donation only so it will seem expensive to them

As a church warden at a CofE church the fees are set as national amounts. Additional fees can be added on an individual church basis depending on your individual requirements, heating, lighting, clergy members, Sunday wedding etc. Like non religious venues you can pay more for a grander building in a sought after location, if running costs are higher etc

We are not getting married in a church , so I cant be of any help I'm afraid.
A friend got married in church recently, and a collection plate went around as part of the ceremony.
Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

That's crazy prices. We got married in a Catholic Church. The fee was £100. Then we gave a small donation on top of that I think it was £50. We also gave the priest £100.

that's more like what I was expecting Danielle, especially considering this isn't a popular church in a sought out area. A donation on top of £100 I would have no problem with but as we have to have our banns read at two separate areas (our parish and my parents parish where we will be getting married) it will be nearing on £700 and a donation on top seems like a lot
