Are there any other brides to be out there who are 5'3 and under? I am 5ft tall and I am hearing conflicting information about the type of dresses to be looking at. I want to avoid the ballgown princess look as want something that is going to flatter my frame and I wear the dress rather than the other way around.

I'm 5'2" and I tried all sorts of styles on. You don't know until you try what is going to work. The samples in the shops are all really long, but they get you to stand on a box so that it hangs nicely. Then the people who do the alterations will know how to take it in so that the shape and fit doesn't change, they won't just shorten the skirt.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I'm just over 5'2" and felt ridiculous in the shops trying on dresses but I expect its to be expected!!

I have an A-line dress and was wearing 3" heels on a 4" box and the pics in my album are what it looked like!

If I'm honest, I didn't consider my height when I was trying dresses on, I just went for which style suited me. go to a shop and ask. They will know what to suggest as have seen it a million times before.

I didn't want a ballgown type but purely just because that's not me. I think you can get away with anything really as long is it suits your shape. I'm 5'1 and my dress was specifically ordered as Petite which was about 3 or 4 inches shorter than the normal samples, and with 4.5 inch heels it just about sits right xx

I'm 5'1.5" - the half inch makes all the difference lol!

I had a princess gown and loved it. Initially I wanted an A-line or fishtail cut but none were right for my body shape, the princess style suited me way better. Everyone is different so keep an open mind and try every shape dress in different fabrics before deciding, you might just surprise yourself, and others x

I wouldn't rule any style out until you have tried it you might like something you never thought of. Also speak to the shop they do this for a living so will recommend what will suit you

I'm 5ft and have considered the possibility that all the dresses ate going to be too long :( I'm only thinking of looking in wedding dress outlets to get my dress, do you think they'll have petite sizes? I'm on a budget so can't really go to a proper bridal shop for all the fittings/shortening etc =/

I just got a regular length dress and had it taken up. Didn't cost me much at all. My bridesmaids dresses alterations cost me more than my wedding dress alterations.

Diddikins, Mine is from an outlet. I'm just going to take it to a local seamstress closer to the time.

I ended up with an A-Line in the end. It worked well for me.

Thanks ladies for the responses. I guess I need to book in for some viewings. I really LOVE this dress or something along the style of this - hope this isn't classed as advertising...!!
