This may be a bit of a stupid question, but..... I have seen a range of different dresses from different designers online which I would like to try on and get a better idea of what they're really like. My issue is I live in deepest darkest Cornwall (we always get forgotten about down here) and a lot of these dresses aren't stocked by anywhere within a 60mile radius. For example I love the Disney collection and would love to try on a couple of different ones within this range, but my nearest stockist is in Bournemouth which is about 3 hours away from me. Does anyone know if i could ask a more local shop to get some sample for me to try? Or are there likely to be shops which stock these dresses closer to home that aren't listed on the website? TIA for any advice on this

Id start going into a local shop and try dresses on for style. what you think you like style wise might not look like what you thought and what you hated might be fabulous! from there id narrow down your love to try and ask a few bridal shops if they mind.
just think if I was a bridal shop owner and someone asked me to order something In and then it was the complete wrong shape for them i'd be a bit miffed because then just left with a dress.
not sure if they will do that though? worth asking though definitely! or a girly trip to Bournemouth :)

You can only but ask! You're not going to lose out if they say no. Is it possible to do a weekend trip and incorporate it with dress trying on?

Emily's suggestion about trying on similar styles first is a good one, and like already said, you never know unless you ask - there's no harm! A girly trip out for the day would be great fun, but you'd then need to think about your appointments for fittings and collecting your dress x

When I tried on dresses in one shop they said the don't stock the whole collection, so if I wanted to try another on I liked from the collection they could order me in a sample dress, the cost was £20 but if I went ahead and ordered the dress they took the £20 off the dress cost, maybe they can offer something along these lines? xx
I'll defo try on similar dresses closer to home im just aware that if i go to Bournemouth and dont like the dresses it's £50 in dress funds wasted on fuel and if I do like and buy one its going to cost me to collect/have it delivered and if theres a problem more cost to go up and sort it. Asking shops in the area is probably my best hope

If you did manage to get to Bournemouth though, if you found a dress, you could always enquire with your local store to see if they were able to order it in. My dress was not in the shop either, I ordered it and it was th first time the shop had even seen it.

I agree with Emily I would go and try dresses on and find out what your style is as its not worth travelling or paying to try dresses that you then decide are nothing like you want/ or what suits your body. And if you do decide they are what you really like I'd be tempted to make a day trip and go around a few and have a lovely ladies day out to do it as u could go via train x

That's a great idea GF at least then I would only have to make the one trip! Think I will defo have to make a day/weekend of it, I like the train idea then we can have a few bevies maybe even try to do a bit of non wedding related shopping whilst we're there. I just have the issue trying to get my bm's together lol good job I have plenty of time, as two are single mums, one of which is currently at uni and the third is working in Turkey until November!

I'd set a date and ask them to pay for their train tickets. Then if they can't will be a cost to them :)

I'd feel mean doing that tho :( all 3 of them are always skint. Just looked tho it will be £300ish for all of us to get the train each way!!(thats looking at the latest dates they give prices for in Nov this year) and we would have to stay up over night as the journey is 3hr 15mins so going up and coming back in 1 day is not worth it. buses are £300 return but an 8hr journey :(

One of the downsides to living in cornwall, everything is so far away and costs an arm and a leg to get to

I used to travel to Kent a lot for work and that was £180 anytime return.. 3 trains and a tube. but if I booked in advance and onto specific trains it dropped to around £20. is there something like that you can do?

The £300 each way booking 6 months in advance with the tr@inline :( works out about £150 each return which is a lot when you consider I could do it with £50 fuel in the car, so much for encouraging people to use public transport

Mrs D, check out railcards and see which one you can get. It is amazing how much it reduces the cost of the tickets.

I'd start first by trying on different styles in local bridal stores, you'll be surprised how similar wedding gown shapes are, see first what suits your body. Then if any that suit you are similar look to book cheap rail fares in advance to travel into say London for a weekend of dress shopping xxx
