Ive been looking for a photographer for a while now , and I think ive found one where I like his work and the price is reasonable. I just don't know what to do for the next step. I've sent him an email on fb to ask for prices but haven't replied to his email yet.
Do people usually arrange to meet them before they decide on choosing them for the day?
Thanks

I would ask to see some of his previous work - preferably an entire album so he can't pick and choose the best ones xx

I would ask if he can send you links to a few complete albums (at least 2-3) that you can view before you meet him, and then I would definitely meet him in person as IMO it's important you 'gel'.
Photography was one of the most difficult things we found to book. We ended up booking our first based on his style and consistency but we're never sure about him as a person; and what happened? He cancelled on us 4.5 months out leaving us in a very difficult position. The photographer we now have is still great, but a MUCH nicer person. We won't get the exact style we wanted, but we won't be working with a diva either lol.
So yeah: see some full albums as many just show their best photos, and when you dig deeper you find that only a handful of their photos are that standard (we found this to be the case with the majority of photographers we looked at unfortunately), and then meet in person to make sure you'll get on with them (eg one we looked at was SO staid and boring g, and we'd have felt really uncomfortable; another was way too over-familiar, friendly, and just too chatty; she did not. stop. talking. I was worrying what she'd be like on the day as I need space and wanted to enjoy getting ready with my bridesmaids, and so even though her photos were amazing, we didn't book her).
HTH!

I would definatly meet him, I have meet several photographers who I have then decided not to go with due to the vibe I got, some just seemed to care about money, while some did not seem overly interested in what we wanted our plans and theme,

We thought we had found ours at a wedding fair, but then he was rubbish at replying to emails or answering his phone. We were due to meet him for coffee to talk ideas one Sunday but we didn't hear anything until the lunchtime and even then he couldn't remember which town we lived in. So we looked around a bit more, and the girl who is doing our invites recommended some others, in the end we have gone for the same photographer she used for her wedding 3 years ago. We had a look at his albums and style, and I had a lengthy phone conversation with him before deciding to book him :)
We arranged to meet up at their studio where they showed us full albums of their work on weddings they have done and especially weddings done at our venue. Make sure you discuss contingencies on what would happen if for example the photographer is ill or has an emergency and discuss how they would work with you on the day.

A good photographer should ask for your date if you haven't already given it, and advise you if they are available. If they are, they should give you a quote and arrange to show you some of their work. Our photographer himself suggested that we should meet, as he said is it very important both for us to see his work and to make sure that we will get on well. He's turned out to be really nice, he even sent us a Christmas card.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I have had a lot of the photographers I have asked for quotes off to be okay, some of them very persistent, wanting to meet up, look at their work, book a date. But as I hate persistence it puts me off seeing them. I would definitely ask to see a lot of what they have got and maybe even a reference, as they are able to pick and choose pictures for their albums as a show and tell for new clients. My mum didnt look at her first photographers work first, it was only this photographer had ruined one of her bridesmaids family members wedding with poo photos she had to search around again last minute.

Maybe see if he has a website as well as Facebook and look for a contact number and ring. We had a meeting at our house with ours and he brought a few portfolios...we already knew how great ours was from other weddings we had seen, plus he's done a fair few at our venue so we know he knows the best places there for shots so we booked him on the spot. Mainly because ours only does 20 weddings a year and concentrates mainly on being contracted for the grand prix's and billboards x

I would definitely second meeting a photographer after the initial conversation. That's how I found out mine was the right one.

We met ours at the venue's wedding fayre, we then visited him at his studio and viewed some of his work before making the decision in our own time. Always best to do your research in my personal opinion.
