    Hello all you lovely B2B's!

I have just been diagnosed with tonsillitis for about the fifth time in the last year and because of my recurring throat infections I have been advised to have both of my tonsils removed. I am getting married in July and I'm unsure what to do, shall I get my tonsils out now, or should I wait until after the wedding. What a stress!! I'm a bit worried about it continuing if I don't get them removed.

    Anyone got any ideas??

How long is it likely for you to wait to get them out on NHS?

If its a 12 week wait it will be in June and the recovery is generally a week, do you really want to be recovering a month or so before the wedding?

I always had tonsillitis (last time i had it i passed out on the bathroom floor!) and I had mine out a few years ago, recovery was two weeks... If waiting time is good do it now but if not then I'd wait until after your wedding... Hate to say it but it makes your breath smell bad because it's obv an open healing wound and also could end up with infection in that like I did! Was horrific! Xxx

DO IT! You don't want to get it just before your wedding! I had my appointment with the consultant and was told it could be up to 12 weeks but within 5, I was having my pre-op and was in the week after having them out! Took a few weeks to recover but was honestly the best thing I ever did. I was hospitalized and was touch and go if I would make it. You DON'T want to be in that situation! xx

I think I'd be tempted to get them done sooner as id worry about getting tontilitis near the wedding. I'd ring the consultants secretary and ask her what the average wait is for the operation. X

I had mine out Feb 2012. Best thing I ever did having my tonsils out.

I'd say depends on the wait time though. Generally they say 2 weeks recovery however, mine was 4 weeks due to picking up a Post Op infection (this only happens 5% of the time apparently).

I would get them out, I get tonsilitus around 2/3 times a year but its not enough for the doctors ! I need to have had it atleast 5 times in a 1 year period for them to consider doing anything.

Definitely do it! I get it, it's not recurring tho so they won't do anything with mine except prescribe penicillin ... What if it happened around your wedding and you were swallowing glass (what it feels like) you wouldn't be able to enjoy yourself...and tbh the NHS are not that bad with appointments for this as it's quite straightforward x

It's probably best to get on the waiting list now. If you get offered a date that's too close to the wedding you could always put it off.

Tell them you would be happy to take a short notice cancellation , but you need to find out who the consultant is and then call his secretary , explain the situation .. They can work wonders ,

I agree with everyone else, do it sooner rather than later. I had mine out as a teenager, best thing I ever did. Used to be so poorly. I used to get it bad at every exciting occasion, xmas, holidays etc. Last thing you want is to be ill for yr wedding xx

I found that the longest bit of the process was the wait between the appointments prior to the op so things like the Pre Op Assessment etc.

As Elinor Claire and Lala have said getting on the list and being free to take a late cancellation would be best for you I think.

I had my addenoids out and only took 4 weeks for my pre op appointment, then 6 weeks for my op, but had to cancel due to finding out was pregnant, but had it done 6 months after my daughter was born , best thing ever, just wish thy had taken my tonsils at the same time
