I'm new around here and still trying to work out how everything works.
I got engaged on 24/8/13 but my Gran died on 23/9/13 and the shine was taken off everything as we were very close. I lost interest to be honest and I'm gutted that she won't be there when we eventually choose a date but she wouldn't want me maudling over things, no doubt she's looking down telling me to get on with it. :)
It looks like we will be trying to stick to a budget of no more than £5000 if possible so any hints are welcome. :) I make cards for a hobby so I'll be making the invites. I'm only having one bridesmaid (h2b's sister) so that should be manageable too. We have four nieces but I can't start that game as much as I'd like too, it would get out of hand far too easily!

Congratulations on your engagement and
Sorry to hear about your nan. I Totally understand how you feel, my grandmother (dad's mum) passed away 10 days after we got engaged and on my sister's birthday, it was horrible. I made sure she was there with us on the day though, I carried her rosary down the aisle in church with me whilst my dad gave me away, that way we both had her with us for that very special moment. Maybe you could incorporate something subtle into the day to remember her xxx

Congratulation on your engagement! What date have you picked? So sorry to hear about your nan. Maybe you could have a picture of her attached to your bouquet or in a locket? Xxx

Hi, no date set yet. We're still saving.
The hot water is broken and the plumber is looking at it today. I hope it's not completely knackered or the wedding fund will become the boiler fund :(
I love the idea of a locket, I really like the brooch bouquets I've seen on some sites too. My Gran liked brooches so I could probably add one of hers to it if I decide to have one of those. x

Hi, welcome to the family, like the others sorry about your nan. I'm doing loads of DIY projects for our venue to keep costs down, I'm even growing our own wedding flowers, I'm finding it loads of fun trying to become creative and really looking forward to everything being personalised, we have got our wedding costs down to £3,500 exc the honeymoon, so your budget is reasonable, have fun with the planning. :)

Also, as my dad has passed away I'm having a memory table, where I will have a candle lit for the duration, his favourite flowers and a little plaque which will say "we know you would be here today if heaven weren't so far away", maybe you could do something similar for your nan, also I'm going to add little charms to the back of my shoes which contain a photo of my dad so that he is walking down the aisle with me.

Welcome! Congrats on your engagement and sorry of your loss. We were in the same sort of situation,we've been together 5 and half years and engaged 4years but we only set a date last winter and a couple of weeks after setting a date my h2bs granded passed away from Alzheimer's disease, was the most cruel horrid thing ever and the whole family was traumatized, I couldn't bear to talk about the wedding and I stopped planning for 3 months, it makes you feel guilty for talking about a happy time when you and your loved ones have lost someone dear to you. I hope you and your h2b are coping well and wish you the best of luck with your planning xx

Oh well the boiler is knackered and is going to cost £1540 for a new one so the wedding fund is no more :-(. Gutted but we need hot water so it has to be done. I'm guessing this will add at least another year onto when we'll finally get married. Feeling a bit sad today x

don't worry about it Emma we had a child come along half way through our wedding plans and thought he'd put 18 years onto us getting married but finally set a date this year (almost 4 years engaged) it'll all work out so keep your chin up xx

Thanks Ladies, I'm feeling a bit better today.
My parents are giving us £1000 towards the boiler so that we don't need to use what we have saved so far which is really kind of them. However, looking at what we can afford to save when the bills have been paid every month it's clear 2016 is a more realistic target to aim for anyway. x

Glad you are feeling a little better.
That's lovely of your parents. That's about the norm I believe for planning a Wedding? We started planning ours in November 2012 and we get married this May so a good 19/20months of planning. It's amazing how the time flys though! I used to think, yeah right when I was often told this but I now believe it!
