Hi everyone, I only joined a couple of weeks ago and still getting used to how it all works, I've been engaged almost a year and last night we finally booked our wedding for 28/05/2015!! It's made me even more ridiculously excited :-) am wondering if I have to pay for the registrar upfront?? The ceremony will be held at a hotel, would be grateful if anyone could help? Thanks girls x

Hi Sally! Welcome to UK Bride and congratulations!
It's so exciting to have a date isn't it?! Where abouts are you from/getting married?

The first thing you need to do is contact your local registry office to give them details of your date/venue and book a time slot for the registrar. Then they'll let you know when you can give notice - it's normally from a year in advance so if you wanted to you could probably do it from the end of May/beginning of June xxx

Forgot to say - payment isn't usually upfront.
You pay £35 each to give notice and then the payment for the registrar is due about a month before the day xxx

For our ceremony at our venue we need to pay a £200 deposit within 3 weeks of contacting them and then a further £208 before the wedding. Then there's the fees for giving notice too. X

    Hi, and welcome.

I am getting married at a hotel too. You need to contact the registrar and make sure that they can do the same time as your venue. My wedding is 01/08/15 and I booked it in December 13. My hotel gave me an ideal time of between 1-3pm due to fitting everything in eg wedding breakfast, photography and then setting up for the evening. When I phoned the registrar(baring in mind how far in advance I have booked) they said the only time they could do that day would be 9.30, 12.30 or 2pm due to other confirmed bookings for that date already. I wanted 2 pm anyhow so I was happy with that.

I had to pay £100 deposit to secure the registrar, when you give notice you will then pay £35 each with the remaining balance to be paid closer to your wedding date, mines aprox £300. Also don't forget you have to pay for your Marriage certificate (£4.00 each).

    x

you can pay a deposit, but if the fees go up, you will have to pay that. so i just paid mine upfront to avoid any price rises

@ julez its norm around £50 deposit and most places take booking upto 2 years before. but some will only take it up to a year before.

Im getting married in a hotel in Scotland so it may be a bit different Total price for us to get married including registrar travel to and from my venue marriage certificate all the paperwork etc it is costing £336.45 and I had to send a cheque for £186.45 before they would confirm the time. I have to go and see them 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding and have to pay the remaining £150 at that time.

Also I had to wait until Jan to book for 2015 as they only do up to the next full year ahead. If I was getting married in my local council I could book 2 years in advance off council premises and only 9 months prior at the registry office
