    Hi everyone,

We booked our Church last night, the warden says we don't have to give notice of marriage before as the reading of the banns takes place of this?

It's a Church of England Church, I just want to double check this is the case as I wouldn't want to turn up on the day and find we can't get married?

So am I right in thinking as we've booked Church of England we literally now just have to turn up for our banns being read and turn up on the day and there are no other legal things we have to do beforehand?

Yes it's just banns for a church wedding! You have to make sure that you arrange the banns with the parish you live in and the parish you're getting married in (if different) x

Yeah, wow-that's a massive weight off our shoulders then just from getting married in a Church. Loads of people have said it's a lot more expensive getting married in a Church (especially Church of England) but I actually don't think it is once you add up all the other costs involved in getting married else where.... that and the hassle of having to sort everything out yourself

Our Church is no more than £600 (will get the prices in November for next year) and if we want the bells it's a further £140, which at first I thought sounded steep but when you consider they'll need to find 8 bell ringers it's not too bad. We can have photo's taken going in, signing the register and coming out of the Church and as long as there isn't another wedding straight after we can go back in for photo's in the Church (they just don't allow them during the ceremony-again which I think is fair enough)
We'd have to pay for a licence if we wanted a videographer, but that's not something we're interested in.

I didn't look into the registry office, but I don't like ours and really want a Church wedding. I had considered a civil ceremony when we first got engaged so looked at prices of around £400 for room hire, but then you had to pay for the registrar (which was £200 plus on a Saturday) and giving notice of marriage ect.

It was when we were looking at these options though that I realised I really wanted a Church wedding as it just didn't feel right not getting married in a Church, I was brought up religious but have sort of strayed away from the Church, it was only talking about marriage and that which has made me realised it still means a lot to me.

our church is capped at £500 including organist and bells and we have a videographer and photographer so no extra charges there either. our church is a really big church too and i thought it would cost more. looking on line the service and certificates etc only cost £430 so the rest is money that the church added on top x

Just looked on our local councils website and it says if your marrying at a Church of England Church or chapel then there is usually no need to involve the superintendent registrar.... we'll give them a call when we get chance though just to have it confirmed. I think with the warden saying we don't need to and the website also saying so we should be okay, but always better to be safe then sorry

that will be dealt with by the vicar. all you need to do is arrange your banns at your own parish church (if either one of you live outside parish) and the rest is done by church x

We have just booked our church its CoE the cost set from the CoE head officials is £398 that goes to the central fund for CoE then the cost for anything else stays local in that church and its down to that church council on the costs of those. Its going to cost us just short of £500 where we are getting married and then another £34 for me to have my bans read at my local parish that includes the certificate I need from my local parish to say the bans are read and I can marry in the other parish. We have to contact both churches 3 months before the wedding to arrange for the bans to be read. Xx
