Hi, I'm new to the forum! I'm getting married next May and my H2B and I are about to put down a deposit on a venue but I'm worried about 'hidden extras' that they might not have included in the quote. I know I have to pay to hire chair covers but is there anything else I should look out for and ask them about?

    Thanks :)

We had to cancel our first wedding because of all the hidden extras ! So here goes:

Do they bump the bar ? - A glass of cordial for the kids went up to £3.50 at our old venue !!!

Does the bridal suite come with your package ? - They made out it would be free but then tried to charge us £250

Do you pay extra for the choice of more than one course ? - They booked us to have 3 courses and then our quote came through a few weeks later and it turns out it was an extra £2 per meal choice per person..

Do you pay for table linen and cutlery ? - Was £200 to cover the 'cleaning' costs of all of that..

(If applicable ) Do you have to put a deposit down for the rooms at your venue ? - We had to put a £50 deposit down, per room or else they will have booked them out to people not involved in the wedding.. Even though we had exclusive hire of the venue, it didn't include the rooms without the deposits !

I cant think of anything more, it was 3 years ago lol.. But I hope some of it helps and if I think of anything more I'll add it :-) xxx

Do they promote certain suppliers and entertainers who cost more than others, and put pressure on you to use them? The DJ that they offered was far more expensive than the one that we eventually chose.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I think I would just outright ask if there would be any hidden costs that haven't been stated in the contract! x

We once looked at a venue (and almost booked until we found the hidden extras bumped the venue from £9000 to £17000). This particular venue charged £1 per glass so whith welcome drink, toasts and wine with the meal we were looking at a minimum additional £3 per person. They also charged extra for the tablecloths and napkins. There were some other extras but I just can't think what they were now.

Blimey, and extra £8000 would be rubbish, imagine going to sit and sort final payments out a month before the wedding and being hit with that!!! xxx

I definitely think before signing it you should ask them about any extra costs .... They're supposed to put them in the small print of your contract anyway,as it's a legality!x
