My H2b thinks that my plan for the day is not giving enough time for everything, whereas I think his idea will leave people hanging around for too long. What I need is your opinions on which you think is the better option. If it is his, then please tell me! lol
Mine: Everyone to arrive at ceremony location 3pm. Service to begin at 3.30pm. Its a registrar, and therefore not likely to last more than 20 mins max. Signing of Registry and Photographs of group and families. Photos of siblings, photos of bridesmaids, grooms men, parents etc. Takes us to approx 5pm. (Champange served to all those mingling while photos are taken) We leave to go get two photo locations which are on the way to the Reception venue (9 miles away). This gives an hour for our guests to travel 9miles to the venue where they can then find their seats (there are only 10-12 tables to choose from) and the meal begins at 6pm ish. Ive given 2 hours for the guests to rise table by table to got through and select their 2 courses from the buffet and eat before the evening guests arrive from 8pm. Cutting of cake and speeches before 8pm. Only my Dad, H2b and his best man are doing speeches. Ceilidh and disco from 8ish to midnight.
H2B Wants everyone to be there from 2pm Service to begin at 2.30pm Same as above etc. Meal to begin at 5pm. Evening guests to begin at 8pm.
This gives three hours for everyone to eat a buffet meal/hog roast and select a pudding.
I think this is too long, and people will be sitting at the table after finishing their meal, for too long. He disagrees. If anyone here can cast a view on this, that would be great. My main fear is people standing or sitting around not really talking, and Dave says we shouldn't have to worry about that. I think after seeing that well known catty bride show, I am even more worried that our wedding will be slagged off for being boring because we have spaced it out too much.
If you agree with my H2B, thats honestly fine, but based on your opinions (esp if you have been to plenty of weddings!!), which do you think is the better way to go?

I'd say start a little earlier, sorry! Just gives you a bit more time/breathing space to see everyone, enjoy the day and not have to keep thinking 'right, onto the next chop chop!'... You're supposed to enjoy the day and I would say if you've got to get all your guests seated, food chosen and eaten before all the evening guest arrived, you are going to be cutting it fine! Given that evening guests will inevitably arrive early and the meal will faff about! :) xx

I agree with CatherineRodgers2Be. my sister had a later wedding and a tight schedule for the day the photographer ran over his time and the meal and speeches took a lot longer than she expected so unfortunately she had evening guests arriving before the wedding breakfast was over.

Dont be sorry Catherine!! Id rather have honest opinions than nothing at all! (He is so smug right now it is annoying lol)
CommentAuthorCatherineR
Hahaha, I bet he is lol however overall, I'd say that it's better to have it at 2pm.... But just think of the positives... More time to wear your dress!! :D xx

We are on your side though ;) just keep repeating 'I love him, that's why I'm marrying him' not 'can't believe he's such a smug git, I hate him'.... If it's the latter..... not good lol!

Hahahaha. No, I do love him. But he is most intollerable when he deems himself "right" lol
CommentAuthorCatherineR
Oh I know, so self-righteous and 'right'.. Irritating isn't it!! The 'I told you so look' is the one that annoys me!

I think you plans fine as a guide, most venues are fune to hold or bring foreard things as needed for weddings as they know not everything goes like clockwork and you want to enjoy your dsy, not be hurried!

Im hoping to get married at 2pm everyone will arrive about 1.30 and the ceremony will start at 2 the ceremony will take 20-30 mins the photographer said to allow 2 mins for every picture you want taken. we will sit down to dinner about 5pm and evening guest will arrive at 7.30pm this gives us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the day. We are having everything in the hotel xx

We got married at 4pm. With hindsight if I was to do it again I would have it at 3pm to have more time.

Lol Dave is definitely a smug git now :/ lol
Alright I have conceded to his wishes, and our Ceremony will start at 2.30pm instead of 3.30pm. But woe betide him if I hear a single "im boredddddd" out of any of his 15 nieces and nephews LOL
Thanks for the honest input girls!
CommentAuthorMrsThomson2B
I would go earlier, it means if there are any mishaps or anything runs behind such as traffic or the picturs take longer you have time to deal with it rather than rushing around xx
CommentAuthorTori
Trust me your day will fly by. Go for the 2pm, if you do get chance of a break between it will be a nice opportunity to mingle with your guests x
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
Did you have to change it with the registra? If so was it hard, did you have to pay any extra fees? as I want to change mine to a hour earlier!

Hey Lana! Didnt have to change it with them, we are in scotland and can only do notice 3 months before the wedding, so we havent given notice yet. We can pick pretty much any time between 10am and 4.45pm as nothing other than our wedding is going on on our day. (We are very rural). So Im glad we've decided now what time, even if Im not in 100% agreement with him! lol
Speak to your registry office and see what they can do Lana, as soon as possible! Im sure if you do it in plenty notice they might be able to just switch you to a different time!
