My beautiful BMS have organised a lovely lakeside cottage for my hen do for a weekend away with champagne and wellies!

Exactly what i was after. However, this morning I emailed my manager and asked for the Friday and Monday off only to be told no!!

I work in finance and yes it's year end but FFS it's my hen party and it's TWO days!!!

So upset, i just don't know what to do! xxx

trouble is if you call in sick on a Friday / Monday and then any pictures of you hen weekend come to light showing you enjoying yourself this could be grounds for a disciplinary, also the fact that you have already asked for those days off ... i would see if you can move the weekend .

I would pull a sicky as its your hen do and your bridesmaids and moh put all that effort in to give you the hen night you wanted and I would put a no to posting Hen night pictures up on fb or social media networking sites or put your profile to private invite only no one can find you and then post away as they should not be able to find you or catch you out =D <3 X

I know exactly how you feel. I also work in an accounts office and we are never allowed time off when its month end let alone year end. its frowned upon evening asking for 1/2 day during then.
Surely your friends would have known what your job is like, unless its our first yr end with your company. Presumbly jobs are talked about when you are all together?
try and compromise and see if they will allow 1/2 off on the Friday pm and the Monday am off.
    could the weekend be changed.
if all else fails its just one of those things.

argh! work sucks and ruins everything.
I understand the dilmena as now you have asked and they have said no, if you call in sick they will know why and technically could do you for misconduct.
I suggest you go to them again with receipts or evidence of the weekend and explain how much it means, how much you would lose and offer to work later on thursday or tuesday to make up for it?

    I hope the understand

    Hiya,

Can you not move your hen do to a different weekend? The problem you will have is because you have asked for those days off already and they refused them, if you throw a sicky it will look extremely suspect.

I know this isn't much help but it is something to think about before throwing a sicky xxx

I have been looking into moving my hen do but the problem is, I get married at the beginning of May that means my hen do will be well over a month before my wedding!

I'm not into the idea of throwing a sicky and it would have thought that because it's my hen do (which she does know about) then she could have made some allowances! It's not like I have ever got married before nor taken time off in that period!

I wouldn't mind but io've worked there seven years!!!! xxx

Well, they know perfectly well when it's year end, so they should be able to plan ahead and organise themselves!! You're giving them plenty of notice to find cover, but I don't think any hen weekend would ever be worth risking your job for by pulling a sicky.
Will they not compromise by allowing you to work your hours over the two weeks before?

Have you explained to them it's for your hen do? Find out if you can make a compromise with them like someone said earlier about doing a half day on Friday and half day Monday?

My boss is like that anyway, i think she just likes to make my life as dificult as possible. Of course she knows it's my hen do, i was open and honest with her.

I've spoken to my union rep anyway and they've said that unless she can give a reasonable response as to why i couldn't have TWO DAYS off then i can appeal.

Not sure i want to go down that route but let's see. xxx

is it worth appealing to her & telling her that you respect her too much to just take sickies off for it, instead of asking properly?

Do you work in a company where there is a boss above her or a personnel manager. If so I'd go to them. I work with a girl who's sister us getting married the same day as me and she asked for a certain day off as her sister told her they are all going to London and her manager said no. She went to personnel and they have said she can have the day off. They said its an exceptional circumstance and shouldn't have been refused. X

I'd consider appealing Hun. For the sake of 2 days she can't really be saying no. That's not on. Especially you being there as long as you have and having good attendance as well

Bet if the boot were on the other foot she'd be straight off!!

We're allowed to appeal under exceptional circumstances too if there's a staff member off or it's an important work time of year . Ie in may for us it's our yearly relaunch so we're not allowed holidays then but they should listen if you appeal x

Hope it works out but would suggest re-asking and explaining why and maybe cancel a couple of days of leave in the new year if you have any, to "make up". Don't pull a sicky... It'll be obvious and get you in to trouble as they will find out. Social media and the world is a very small place is how!

Does it say in your contract that holiday can only be taken at certain times? Dig your employment contract out and have a read of what it says.

If nothing is there then she has no basis to refuse your annual leave which is a contractual right of employment.

Most employment contracts will have a clause about not clashing with other members of staff but that is not her arguement........

I've changed my date to March now as it just wasn't worth the hassle, the girls have decided we can have a night out in town in April just so we can have a get together the month before wedding. xx
