    Hi all,

A couple of our guests have very kindly given us cheques...however, they have put them in both our names and we don't have a joint account. Been into the bank and they've said we need to open a joint account which is going to be a right pain as I have very little in the way of ID....and I really don't want to do it.

Is it really bad to ask the people who gave us the cheques to rewrite them? Obviously, we'd send them the original cheque back...

    Xx

We only had one cheque in joint names but luckily it was a friend and I just sent her a text to thank her ever so much but in the absence of a joint account, would she be happy to put it in one or the other's name?

She was fine with it & brought a cheque in my name only

Im sure your guests would rather you were able to use the money than not ask x

We had to do that, wasn't a problem in our case, sometimes people don't realise that you won't necessarily have a joint account.

My bank was awesome. They said that it wasn't a problem they'd pay the cheque in and if I wanted to pay cheques in my maiden name for the next few months, that would be absolutely fine too as they had it on record! Not quite sure how how I feel about that in terms of security. But hey ho!

Yeah I'd just ask them; like Elle said; they would want you to be to use the money :)

We had cheques with both our names on it and got paid into my bank account and as long as my husband was with me and agreed to them being paying in to my account the bank were fine with it.

As others have said, just explain the situation and ask for a new cheque. They're probably wondering why the cheque hasn't been cashed, and will be relieved when you tell them the situation.

If needs be, can't you just add your hubby as a second person on your account? Thus making yours joint? He doesn't have to use the card or anything, if you don't want, but you could pay your cheques in then.

I have the same problem, I haven't tried to present mine yet though! The name on my account has been changed so I'm hoping that I will be able to bank it as it states my name (as well as hubs), will let you know how I get on Monday! Xx
