My father is a very good photographer and has done many wedding's including my aunt's and although I'd love to ask him to do the photo's because a) he'd do a good job and b) a great way to save money.. I feel it wouldn't be right being one of the father's of the bride because obviously it's his daughter getting married, he'll be busy and wants to enjoy the day rather than worried about getting the photo's... However he does enjoy it... Should I ask him to do the actual photo's or get a professional but then with him maybe catching the 'real and casual' moments as and when he wants? Thoughts/opinions? xx

Personally Id get a pro... It's a day (kindve) for you and your dad... Are you both being walked up the aisle by your dads or are you walking up together? I like the idea of your dad getting the casual ones tho x
Ill marry my hero

We are going to walk in with the Dad's to the actual ceremony as we won't be married at that point and then when we go to chapel for the blessing, we will walk in together as a married couple :) I've been thinking it would probably be better to get a pro in as I want him around and enjoying the day than worrying about getting 'the' shot but it would be nice if he brought his camera and got any he wanted for their records as it were :) what do you think? xx

My opinion on this would be a professional as it could mean that your Dad doesn't enjoy the day as much as he could as he would have an extra stress on him and could perhaps take some of the elements a FOB should have away from him a little.
Does your Dad know anyone that could do it for you? It may be that in the evening your Dad could take some snaps if he wanted to?

I would definitely go pro.. 1. So your dad can enjoy the day properly but 2. So if (god forbid) anything goes wrong with the camera/memory card, it won't be your dad you're angry at and he won't feel terrible.. 3. It's a lot of pressure on your dad, who although may love doing it, may feel differently doing it for his one and only little girls big day..
We were going to ask my uncle and H2Bs niece, but rethought having a family member do it for the 2nd reason.. They will still be there snapping away, but as and when they choose, no pressure to capture every little moment xxx
I can't wait to become his Wife :-) <3

Definitely get a professional. Your dad will want to enjoy the day and be a part of it all rather than being so busy taking photos that he may miss special moments x

My Dad is also a good photographer but there's no question; I'm getting a professional. He needs to be able to be the Father of the Bride and nothing else. Plus if he's the photographer then someone else has to be roped in to get photos of the walk in and the speeches.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I'd say ask him what he would like to do but I bet he would rather just be a father of the bride and take photos when he wants to take photos and not fee pressured to take those posed photos or key moments :)

I would get a professional so that your dad could relax and enjoy the day. X

I would not use your dad, he should be enjoying the day and in pics not stressing, but he could always take your getting ready pics so cut the cost of paying photographer for that bit

I would get a pro so that everyone can relax and your dad can enjoy himself. xx

I wouldn't use your dad, how will he be on the pics if he's taking them? I'm sure he'll take some amazing photos regardless, but along side someone rather than just him as he wouldn't really be able to enjoy the day just as proud dad....

Thank you ladies, I thought that would be the general consensus but I just wanted to see what the general thoughts were.. I'll say more than welcome to take pics through the day like at any normal wedding but I'll get in a pro to do the proper shots so a) he can be in them and b) enjoy the day as FOB!! :) xx

Professional... not fair on putting your dad under that pressure on the day... plus if it goes wrong, unless you have a contract with him, unlikely you'll be able to claim on insurance... could be that images get corrupted, camera stolen etc etc... let dad enjoy the day with his daughter and ask a pro to do it!
And we lived happily ever after!
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I agree with all the above, get a professional photographer for the whole day and let your dad enjoy the day as FOB, maybe let him give some input into who you and your OH choose to have xxx

So now that the parents are onboard, been thinking a little bit more about photography on the day and how to cut down on costs. I've been looking at prices and packages in my local area and the least expensive for what we want so far is £995!!! :O I just don't think that we can afford to do that so I was thinking that as my Dad would take piccies beforehand anyway as he likes to do that maybe we get a package that starts at the wedding venue and let him do what he wants at the house beforehand? If we propose that to him and he thinks it's a possibility, it would take the cost down dramatically to as little as £695!!!! What do people think? xx

He is, he's done weddings before but stopped several years ago as he didn't have the time he wanted to put into them with his own business at the same time...
