    Hey ladies,

I'm on the Yasmin pill and been on it for four years. If you don't know it the pill where you take for 21 days and then have week off for your period. Me and hubby to be are thinking of trying for a baby once we married. Just wanted advice from all you mummy's when to stop taking the pill?

    Thanks xx

When you've finished your 21 days and had your 7 days break, that's usually a good time to not start a new pack. It gives you time to have period - although it does take a few months for some people for the pill to get completely out of your system. Gp's usually advise to wait til you've had another 'proper' period before trying to conceive but that's only for dating purposes. Hope that helps x

It can take 6 months plus for fertility to return to normal once you stop taking the pill, though for many women it's much quicker. If you have an underlying condition which can affect fertility (can endometriosis for example), it can be advisable to switch to a method like the mini-pill or Mirena IUS as these leave the system immediately; but this is only in those cases. Otherwise, I'd say your 2 main options are to stay on the pill until you are ready to TTC, understanding that you may not get pregnant immediately, or, come off the pill now and use something like condoms in the meantime until you are ready to TTC, giving the pill time to leave your system and for your cycle to regulate.

Valentina, i see no problem in these topics.
People want advice and real life happenings, yes we can get advice from Dr's, but everyone has different views or had different effects from it, and if she wants to know about them that is her choice.
If things like this was not allowed, why would there be a topic folder for it in the forum?

I came off the pill after 5 years, had my period within the seven days and caught 3 days after it ended. Happened very quick for me!

I read online and spoke to my doctor, both said that it can take up to a year for your body to regulate after long term use. But if your healthy, you could also be lucky and catch quick.

    Good luck!

The ones i used are called Pregnacare, they are a lil on higher price range wise, but are worth it. It gets you off to a good start and Dr's recommend you take them throughout pregnancy. They provide all essential vitamins to the growing little one. But i know Boots have there own range as do Superdrug :) Also don't fall for those tests showing when your most fertile, waste of money, you can work out yourself with your period start and end dates. Good Luck (Y) xx

And if you're ttc at the moment, make sure you're taking Folic Acid (speak to your gp as you can get these on prescription).

Im not a big fan if multivitamins as each person is individual and my granod was a chemist and said that your body uses more energy getting rid of extra vitimins you don 't need than the help of having the bit if vitamins you do need!

I did take folic acid tho as its very important during pregnancy, to stop spinabifida!

I was on the pill for 5 years before we tried for my eldest daughter took 11 months to fall pregnant then and then was on for another 2 years before trying for number 2 but only took 3 months to fall with her! Everyone is different but def get doctors advise before trying and if nothing after a year seek medical advise again!
    Good luck hunni

It is very important when selecting your vitamins, that you ensure any multi vitamin you take does NOT have Vitamin A in it. It is alright normally, from every day foods, as this is in small enough doses to be of benefit to a forming baby, however larger doses of vitamin A can cause serious developmental problems in unborn babies, which is why multivitamin supplements containing vitamin A should really be taken care to avoid.

Liver, pate etc should be avoided too.

I think it does depend. I don't have any children yet but I was told when I started the pill that it can take up to a year for your normal cycle to return, however it doesn't always as some of the other ladies have mentioned!! Have a chat with your Doctor because I think it can depend on how regular your cycle was before the pill as well xxx
