Hi, (I am new here, so hi everyone I am Abby)

I have been with my partner for 8 years we have 3 children together we intitally met in school altough when we left we went our seperate ways only to meet out drinking some years later and the rest as they say is history haha.

Anyway my question today is: My HTB's father is Jewellery phobic and altough he is married has never worn a wedding ring and my HTB is very simmilar to him and dosnt want to purchase a wedding ring as he wont wear it. we are getting married on 21st June 2014 and are due to start our marriage prep classes in September so I will ask this question when we start but has anyone else experienced this and as its a church service is this something that is required or can i get around it. any info and advise will be greatly received.

    Firstly welcome :)

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the giving and receiving of rings during a marraige ceremony is not a legal thing but a symbolic thing. And that as long as the priest, minister or whoever conducting knows this they can adjust it accordingly and leave his ring bit out.

I'm sure he'll be able to clear it up for you when you speak to him :) xx

We aren't getting married in a Church but, I have been looking through our wording book this morning and there is a section for the exchanging of rings but is a version for both having rings and just the Bride having rings so I am sure it would be the same for a Church Wedding too. I think it was something like you responding by accepting the ring and what it is representing.

Can't he have a ring just for the ceremony?

A wedding ring is not a legal requirement. Your minister will be able to advise you on the wording, if you look at William and Kates wedding only she recieved a ring so that might be something to look out online and se how it was worded then xx

i agree with joanna... ask him if he'll do it ceremoniously and for photos sake and buy an inexpensive ring!!! or if youre not bothered... tell the minister and he'll see you right!

Prince William doesn't have a wedding ring. At the royal wedding he gave a ring to Catherine and I think they said the normal words (I give you this ring .../I receive this ring...), but they didn't do it the other way round; Catherine didn't give a ring to William.

the groom doesn't have to have a wedding ring nor does the bride if she doesn't want one friends of mine got married in church and they had their names tattooed on their fingers and didn't want rings. its not a legal requirement to have rings. x
