I was just wondering whether anybody has had any really good bargains from their venues due to booking quite late?

We are wanting to get married on a Saturday next September, we've got quite a small budget but we've found a couple of places that we like and we can afford and we're at the point now where we're getting close to signing on the dotted line for one of them.

My Dad's Mrs (they're recently married) was telling me that when they were looking at venues some of them were quoting brochure prices but then ringing her offering to reduce the price as it was late availability (they booked there wedding about 3-4 months in advance).

So I was just wondering whether if we hold out and book something nearer the time whether we might get a really good deal? We're not too fussy about which month we get married in, yes we'd like September but it's not essential, but we do really want a Saturday.

Has anybody got a real bargain by booking late?

Sorry i cant be of much help but it may be worthwhile asking them if they get booked up quickly or trying to find out if they have any spaces left this september,at least that way you will have an idea of how likely it is they will have a saturday next september,or even just ask them outright if they could do any sort of discounts to help lower the cost for you. Dont quite know how it works with venues but im sure they may be able to budge a bit on price. But yeah sounds a good idea if you dont mind waiting it out but its just if you think its a risk and would you have any 'back up' venues if that one did fully book?x

i dont know of anyone with experience of this but if your not bothered when you get married then it shouldnt be a problem with waiting as you can choose any date with your venue. i know at one of the venues near us they post all of their remaining dates on line with prices for each. the only problem you might have is getting your other suppliers on that date too e.g. photographer. as long as you dont have your heart set on particular suppliers and are willing to be flexible i cant see a problem with this x

There is only one issue here and that's giving enough notice to guests... It's not impossible but the more notice given to guests, the more flex in general they have to organise their lives in sufficient time for them to attend. If you're having a small wedding then its probably less of an issue as you're probably choosing guests that are very close family and friends and wouldn't miss it for the world. You also need to be able to ensure you have time to give notice etc etc... but if they can do it all in 3 weeks on Don't Tell The Bride, you're probably going to manage too!

    Thanks for your replies.
Yeh we're very flexible really so I think it might be worth us giving it a go, we've not got our heart set on one particular place or date, we're in no rush to get married, we're already living together with kids so it's not as though we need to get married before we start a family or anything. So basically if we didn't find a bargain and everywhere ended up booked up then we could just book something for a later date.
I've already got my dress, my mum is doing my flowers, h2b's uncle is doing our photography, I'm doing the cake, h2b work is supplying the car so we're not relying on many suppliers for much.
Tbh I'm not that bothered if some people can't make it, as long our parents, siblings and best friends are there then I'm not bothered if some of our 3 million aunts, uncles and cousins aren't there.

My sister and BIL got a deal on a package by booking 6 months before but they had a Thursday wedding.

Saying that I know that our venue are doing late booking deals on any available dates left including Saturdays. It is possible to get deals on late Saturday bookings if there are any available xxx

A lot of venues by us do really good discounts for late booking - however, if it's a Saturday you're after I suspect you will want to be looking outside of season - so oct to feb time. It could work, if you're flexible on the dates xx
