We've just booked our appointment to give notice on 19th April (im very excited about it!) I know that they take you in seperately and ask questions - but what kind of things do they ask? I've been with my H2B for 5 years, but its a bit scary that you may get something wrong and look silly!!!

I've looked back at previous threads and can only see posts about the costs etc, not on what they actually do - would appreciate any help just so I know what to expect!!!

...well, if it is for a RO ..then all we had to do was send in a written request noting our intention to get hitched, where, what date and what time..we had to say whom we where and where we lived.

We sent in a cheque for £25 to secure the date/time for a registrar to marry us .. the confirmation came back yesterday so we are OFFICIAL now!!!

Didnt think they asked questions apart from date of wedding, dob if youve been married before, where your getting married etc, let alone asking them seperately.
When we asked our registry office this is all they said we needed,oh and any change of names (h2b changed his when he was 17) and the £30 fee each.

I don't think it will be as bad as it sounds MrsHowrd2B...it will probably be just like how long have you known each other, are you committed to the marriage etc, have you any worries etc.

That sort of thing will be a dawdle compared to what I will have to do..speak to Canadian Immigration Officers about it..Arrrgh!

All they asked me was details about my partner including:-

    His occupation
    His address
    His fathers name
    Date of marriage
    Place of marriage
    Time of marriage
And if either of us have been married before

And that's it hun, nothing out of the ordinary! Its only so that before the license is granted they can check the details match and confirming no false information is given, hope this helps!

We had to take ID with us, we both went in together and she ran through some information with both of us, then I left and she sat with Mark, and basically the information is about full names, addresses, occupation etc. It is not a test!! Then mark came out and I went in and she ran through all of our details again so I could confirm that it was all correct.

Fee was £30.00 each and if you have been divorced you would need your Decree Absolute and if you have changed your name you'll need the Change of Name Deed.

Eilowny I don't envy you but good luck when the time comes!!

It sounds like it is very different depending on where you are then - they definitely said to us that we would be seen seperately. My friend who got married last May was asked what here H2B father did for a job - I'd find that hard to answer as its all very complicated!!!

Oh well, I'm sure it will be fine!

They might talk to you both together first to save repeating the information but it may depend on the person you are dealing with! They did then see us separately.

Yes you might get asked that hun, its only to confirm the details for the license! Ask him before you go what his official title is ;o) you don't have to explain his job, you only have to give the title! And you will be seen separately at some point! It only lasts about 10 mins! Nothing to worry about at all.. x

Oh yes, good point. It is basically the info that will go on the Marriage Certificate. I didn't think about my Dad's job and I was ablet o describe to her what he does but couldn't give her an official job title! She did say that it wouldn't prevent itgoing through and they will take the details from him on the day of the wedding but it might be best to find out in advance!

    His name
    His address
    His occupation
    His dads name
    My date of birth
    My dads name
    My dads occupation
    Where my dad lived
What i was doing at uni

But they didnt take us into separate rooms to do it and he got my dads occupation a little bit wrong lol!

you just get asked the basics, nothing to worry about, nicci:you should ask your reg office about knowing nothing about your bio father, just so they know and can advise you, cant imagin it being a prob though, there must be people who get married who dont know there bio father either x

Nah it doesnt matter Nicci. They will ask who your father and mother are but if you dont know it doesn't matter. My dad is my stepdad, but has been my dad since i was 7, but if i didnt have him then i wouldnt have known much about my bio dad x

Yeah it was in another thread Fiddles, it'#s so that iof the unfortunant happens to you & your hubby your kids will inherit what you wanted them to inherit. Otherwise any child you have once you are married is the legitimate heir to your inheritance etc.

    Old inheritance law.

Eilowny- have u watch the proposal?? the bit at the end where he is asking unapropriate questions bout- what side of the bed do you lay on... and your partner..? any way- im sure it wont be that bad and in a few years time when ur happily married and in canada it will be something you laugh about to everyone! try and chill out about it- at the end of the day if you dont know your H2B- who does?! and dont say him because chances are you know his lil habbits and quirks more than he does! :o)

MrsHoward2B- chill hun and breath.. pretty much the same to you. its just a formality. even if they ask you why you want to get married to your H2B im sure you could talk for britain bout it!

Best of luck to you both anyway! x
