We have just been thinking of the invitation information and was googling some information to ensure that we hadn't forgot anything when H2b came across a BBQ or picnic for the day after the wedding and we thought, what a great idea.
Reason for it is because our wedding is going to be quite a large affair - with around 200 guests at the evening reception. So we're going to put it out there that "if you feel that you didn't spend enough time with the bride and groom on their big day, why not join them for a informal celebration for a picnic or bbq on the next day". This will also help us as we have a lot of friends and family travelling a long distance to come to the wedding so it ensures that they will defiantly get to speak to the bride and groom properly before they go home again.
Just thought i'd share it with everyone on here!

Lovely idea!
One of our friends is having a belated b'day celebration the day after our wedding as she is in the Army and only back for the weekend. It suits us as a lot of our friends will be there but we dont have the pressure of arranging/organising etc

we had "champagne and cake " at our house the day after the uk ceremony for similar reasons and just had an open house
I'm thinkingof doing something similar the day after as we don't go on honeymoon til the Monday so would be a nice way of spending time with the family and having the wedding celebrations at home continued as I originally wanted (we decided back garden wedding wasn't going to work!)
And we lived happily ever after!

I would love to have it at home, but it's no where near big enough to host even a "turn up if you want to" kinda champagne and cake or bring your own sarny kinda thing :P
we're thinking of where we got engaged is a nice damm which has area for a picnic :) quite looking forward to this now! :D
Oh no, we were planning on a marquee in the back garden (it's a croquet lawn so its huge!) we were worried about the practicality of it...especially noise wise and security!
Where did you get engaged?
And we lived happily ever after!

I'm hoping to do something similar at my parents house, with our closest friends and family! :-)

That's a lovely idea, I think it's always a problem spending time with every guest at the wedding, especially where there are a lot of guests and some may have travelled a fair way to celebrate.
We haven't really got anywhere to do it thogh, also myself, h2b, sil and bil, mil and fil are going away on the Sunday after the wedding...with the wedding being such a long day, then having a long day travelling on the Sunday it wouldn't work for us...plus as everyone's coming on honeymoon wi us (not something I planned, and tbf there only going to the same town in Scotland) it will be nice to have h2b to myself for the day lol! I've changed the category of the thread as I don't think you meant to put this in the rant category ;)
I think a gathering the day after would be lovely. From personal experience though, I'd keep it very low-key and let other people handle it all for you. You will be shattered the next day! x

I agree with lk, I was exhausted the day after our wedding! Plan something where you can just relax and not have to do much. It is great to spend the next day with family/friends though because you just want to talk about the wedding day all day! Lol

We are hiring a 'home' for the week of our wedding for my family and so the day after the wedding will probably gather all the family in this house for a BBQ or take away before everyone leaves the north east. All depends on honeymoon and flights for whether we will arrange something with friends Xx
