My H2B was really nervous about doing the speech and that aspect of the day was worrying him the most, considering that most of the ceremony guests are my family who he doesn't know well. He hinted a few times that he didn't want to do it so I decided yesterday that I would. I never really thought a bride could do a speech until I searched it on Google. I want to make sure there is a speech done because I want certain people on the day thanked for their help and I want to say a few words to my H2B. I've already drafted a speech but, it really needs patching up to say the least!
What are your thoughts on the bride doing the speech?

i'd like to do a joint one with hubby to be, to take some of the strain from him, I want him to enjoy our day and not spend half of it feeling nervous over a speech, obviously I want him to stand up and sing my praises though :) ors ill be kicking him under table ;) xx

I personally like to keep it the traditional way... FoB, Groom, best Man. I'm using it as an opportunity for three men to complimet me! Plus take the pressure off. I have pre-briefed them that they are not to say "thank you for coming" in the speech! It's just so inappropriate and desperate sounding! I cringe evry time I hear it! Weddings are not seminars or concerts!
People should be wanting to celebrate the special day and are being paid for to attend, they are not a business seeking approval and thanking them for their custom! Lol... pet hates with speeches rant! Sorry!
And we lived happily ever after!

There is no best man or dads(they are deceased) at ours, it's a quiet Gretna Green wedding but my h2b will say a few words and if i can muster up the courage i will say a few words too. I wouldn't worry who speaks as long as the relevant people are mentioned i'm sure it will be fine.
Im not a traditional girl, and if i had to sit there and be quiet and turn red while he sats that i look beautiful of something would just kill me! Plus i have no dad so mums doung a speach and my moh has already said to just try and stop her telling whole room what a adorable little girl i was ;) ;) lols

My partner is terrified about doing a speech so he is going to do a very quick one and I'll do the longer version thanking everyone. I'm really looking forward to it and have already made a few drafts. Getting married April 12th next year and cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!

H2b doesn't want to do a speech but I want to thank people too for helping ect... So because I still think it's very much his job we will do one together I'll thank my family he will thank his we'll say something to our kids and to each other then a lil thank you to everyone who came xx

I don't think its cringeworthy thanking people for coming, yes they want to come, but you wanted there there too, and its not free, outfits, rooms , travel and gifts they have to fork out for!

I would like to make a speech but I stutter when I'm nervous - its going to be hard enough to say my vows. Instead I'm going to help with parts of h2bs to make sure he speaks for me a little bit too.
CommentAuthorLauraK7
Absolutely no way lol I'm nervousness enough about doing the vows in front of everyone H2B will do a thank you speech as he doesn't really want to do one either and then my dad and best man will do one
CommentAuthorMelissaLarner2b
Well I had no plans to do one but today after having my bridesmaids round we got onto the subject of speeches and they both think I should do one then h2b said he agreed as he thought it'd be nice, so I'm going to do one.... just something else for me to think about like us brides don't have enough to do! Lol.

I posted in this thread that if i could muster up the courage i would do a speech and i did! It just came naturally i didn't plan it as such i just knew i wanted to say a few words, somebody captured it on film and i'm glad they did because it came straight fro the heart. I''m so glad i did it.
