    Hi all

As the title says, 2 diamonds have fallen out of my engagement ring since March so we took it back in to the store yesterday. They have offered us either a full refund, to order the same bridal set or order a new bridal set which they will give a slight discount on (10%). I just wondered if this has happened to anyone before? I feel really upset that the engagement ring I end up getting now won't be the one OH proposed with. I'm also left without an engagement ring in the meantime because I'm too scared to wear the original one incase more diamonds fall out before they order another set in for me :(

    Any advice?

    Sorry for the rant x

I should mention, it had already been replaced when the first diamond fell out in march so this will be the 3rd bridal set I'll have. X

What style of ring is it? Some rings just don't hold up too well to daily way, particularly certain pave styles where there isn't must metal around the stones. So, it might be an idea to consider a slightly different design.

That said, I have a lot of micro-pave on my ring and have had it 2.5 years with no issues at all.

What I would probably do in your case would be take the refund, and then approach an independent jeweller in Hatton Garden or the Birmingham jewellery quarter. If you take plenty of photos, and measurements (or, take the ring in for them to see, before you get the refund and return it), they should be able to copy the style for you, but the workmanship will likely be superior, and they may be able to suggest small changes which won't alter the overall look much, but which will make it sturdier. You will also likely save money doing this/be able to upgrade the specs of the stones, as typically they're much better value than the high-street.

I would ask for a refund and get something else. I wouldnt be happy that 1 had come out, let alone 2.

My ring has a very unusual setting in that it has a claw either side but the stone then sits in a bracket.

I had a similar problem with my ring. It was returned 3 times to the jewellers as stones kept falling out and each time they'd repair it and send it back. When it happened the third time after a rather grouchy email they accepted a fault with the ring and sent me a new ring....which I was terrified to wear as it was new and perfect it stayed in its box! Eventually I started wearing it and seven months down the line it's still intact!! Phew! That came from a shop in the Birmingham jewellery quarter a 'heaven'ly diamond shop and while it might not have been the best experience I cannnot fault the customer service they never quibbled with me and did their best to sort the fault.

Yeah I agreed with what everyone else has said; get a refund and take it to someone else to make the same design or something. I know it is upsetting for you as it was not the one he proposed with but if stones are going to keep falling out; is it really worth all; the worry and stress along with waiting for it to come back all the time? :S
