Just wondering how much we need to budget for hiring the men's suits and have no clue?? There's h2b and bestman and out two fathers and 2 page boys.
Asking cos the bm dresses I've fallen in love with are way more than I wanted to pay (£228 each but shop said they'd offer 10% dicount but still more costly than I wanted). I contacted she who must not be named for a swatch of the colour I want and it's miles out from the actual colour so I can't use her

Ours worked out at about £75 per suit, from the green woods.
They were the cheapest we found, most places seemed to be about the £100 mark xx

we live very close to peter posh a company that supply a lot of the suits all over the UK - they have lots of resellers. ours are full suit with tails waistcoats shoes cravattes etc with a cane (they look pretty cool lol) for £109 including insurance. if you buy 6 you get one free i think which is pretty standard at most places these days. there was another place that was cheaper but we know a few people that work there and they are going to get us the nicest suits lol and hopefully another free one x

We budgeted £90 per suit at sl*ters (is that allowed?), but H2H decided he wanted a kilt which was £60 each with all accessories. So under budget we can now afford to have my brother in law as a usher which he was very happy about!

We need to hire 7 suits. Due to hiring this amount, the groom goes free so we are paying £600.

We need ten suits and have looked about online. The best price we've found is a place called formally yours. They do a good range of colours and styles, you send them the measurements. They deliver them to your address and collect them after the wedding and are £57 a suit. We've opted for this because we're on a bit of a budget and have so many people to kit out :) xx

We're hiring ones for £57 each from formally yours, including suit, waistcoat, tie/cravat, shirt, pocket hankie. They'll only need their own pants, socks and shoes. They get delivered 8 days before the wedding a picked up a few days afterwards.

honestly! I paid 50% of the total cost. This is what it says on their website
"What is the initial payment? We normally require at least 50% of the payment upfront for morning wear and highland wear. Eveningwear is full payment upfront ".
Why would you pay £200 deposit per suit hire when the hire cost isn't that much!!!

Slaters was just a 50% deposit which I though was reasonable. I remember this being an issue a few months ago and the lady decided to go elsewhere, I dont know if she had rung up to confirm or not.

My sil hired some suites from a shop and then when she went to pick them up days before her wedding, they told her she couldnt take them until she had paid 1k deposit, she said she burst into tears as she didnt have that kind of money and they let her off, But when she hired them in the first place there was no mention about a deposit. I did look at moss to but didnt understand what they ment as it said £8 insurance but then said £200 security deposit per outfit. Which confused me to. Just to add, The way i got my price was i went to 2 shops (both g/woods lol) and got 2 quotes then went back and forth showing them the other was cheaper, By the time i finished my price was £703 not the £970 first quoted. That included free insurance clufflinks etc.
CommentAuthorMrsK2b
When we went into our local one i asked about the Security Deposit they did say to me that it would be £200 per suit and you would normally get it back unless there is really bad damage done, this is the reason why we didnt go with them.

CommentAuthorWhovianbride
its stupid, if you take out insurance should that not cover them if anything happens the whole reason people rent is coz they don't have money to buy them if people had the extra 200 they would buy them.

That's part of the reason we didn't go with moss, the fact that the security deposit is £200 per suit, and when we went in to have a look, we went to go upstairs to where the section was and the shop assistant wouldn't let us up the stairs, kept saying how they were very busy up there and then shoved a brochure in our hands and told us to take it away to look at... we didn't want to look at a brochure, could do that online, we wanted to look at the actual things, but we weren't allowed to go up there. Put us right off, so we're going with Slaters now, much better place and price. xxx
CommentAuthorGoldiepostie
Didn't have any of these problems with Moss. Made an appointment with them, went it tried on. Yes the insurance is £8 per suit (which you don't have to take out, but why wouldn't you!), so made our suits £100 each. If there's a major stain on the suit or something rips, we don't have to worry about it.
Honestly, there's no £200 security deposity to pay. I can see where you're seeing this on the internet, but this isn't the case. Deposit only and like i say this was 50% of the total price. xxx
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
Well that worries me, what if you go to pick them up and they ask for the security deposit and you don't have it! Do you have a contract?

When we got ours from g/woods they explained that they had a £200 security deposit per suit, but what they do is just take your card details, and if the suit is damaged upon return they will deduct it then...similar to how hotel mini bars work I think...
I'm sure a lot of b2bs would cry at having to find an extra grand until after the wedding, I know I would!

Payment and Security Deposit An initial payment (normally 50% of the total hire fee) must be paid to Moss Bros, by the Customer, at the time the Contract is formed. All balances due must be paid on (or in advance of) collection. Goods will not be released until full payment has been made. During Ascot Week, separate charges will apply. Further details of all charges and surcharges can be obtained from any Moss Bros Hire store or ************ The Customer is responsible for ensuring that the valid till Receipt, handed to them at the time of payment, matches the Quoted Initial Payment on their Agreement form(s). In the event of any discrepancy or difference between the till Receipt value presented by the Customer & the Quoted Initial Payment value written/typed on the Agreement form(s), then the till Receipt value will be taken; the Quoted Balance value will then be adjusted accordingly. A security deposit of £200 (£400 for Highland wear) is always required for each set of Goods ordered on or before the Collection Date. The security deposit is payable in Store by credit card, debit card (not Electron or Solo cards). No Goods will be released until the security deposit has been received. The security deposit is held against the Goods hired and will be processed in the event that the Goods are not returned (which will be assumed if the Goods have not been returned within 5 days of the Return Date) or in the event that damage occurs to Goods which is not covered by accidental damage waiver. 6. Loss, Damage and Accidental Damage Waiver (ADW) Unless declined by the Customer, a fee will be added / included in all Contracts to pay for ADW. The ADW provides cover for the Customer in respect of all accidental damage occurring to the Goods whilst in the possession of the Customer, with the exception of malicious damage. Non-return, loss and theft are not covered by ADW. The Customer is responsible for and will indemnify Moss Bros against any loss or damage to the goods whilst in the possession of the Customer. In the event that the Goods are not returned from hire at all, are lost, or are damaged and not covered by ADW, Moss Bros will pursue the recovery and return of the Goods or any monies outstanding to the full current selling value of the Goods in question. Top hats are not covered by ADW and a fee of £100 will be charged for each top hat which is damaged, howsoever that damage is caused. Suit covers, hat boxes, shoe trees and bags are loaned at no extra cost, but are also not covered by the ADW and are therefore subject to a surcharge of £15 each if not returned or are returned damaged.

Moss Bros are about £100 each. We're getting three, for groom and two best men, but then the two fathers will provide their own and we'll just give them button holes. Ushers likewise will provide their own suits and we will provide matching ties. If you want to keep costs down for the page boys, you could just get a white shirt and black trousers from any school uniform shop, and either hire or buy waistcoats. You can get boys waistcoats quite cheaply on the high street.

LauraJo87, She must have had at least 9/10 suites and everyones but the groom + fog, was in pieces by 1am, as all the men got into a fight in the car park, So she is soo lucky she didnt give them anything as she wouldnt have got it back. I know what you mean about that sort of deposit its like when you rent a car or quad on hoilday and you have to leave card details with them in case you damage it. But can it be a bank card or does it have to be a credit card?
CommentAuthorMrsK2b
If I was you I would use a 0% credit card as they take the funds and when everything is returned they then put the money back. Well thats what they said to me. This is why we didnt use them in the end as I wanted to but refused to hand over that type of money.

H2b is getting his 7 suits for himself, Best Man, Ushers and our Dads from M0ss and he called them about the "£200 deposit per suit" and they said that they get a few calls questioning this because of how it has been worded. Apparently they take a card number so that if a suit is damaged they have the card number to take the replacement cost from so they don't actually take any form of security deposit as they state on their site/booklet.

i've just spoken to my branch, it's not physically having to pay £200 per suit hire, they just take your card details (much like when you hire a car) to ensure that you return all items you've hired.
I wasn't aware of it, they didn't explain it to me, but if you're not actually paying any money, then i don't see the problem
xx
CommentAuthorMrsMoran
It was just the way they worded it Goldiepostie, but what put us off was the way we felt we weren't allowed into the section to see the suits. Having discovered what the security deposit really means, if you have a nice branch with nice staff then that's fine. They should just re-word that security deposit section xxx
