We always said we would have a small wedding with a few family and friends so we booked The world Famous Blacksmith's shop in Gretna, we get married at 4.30 and have the wedding breakfast at a local hotel commencing about 6.00pm it's a three course meal and what with speeches etc we think it will end around 9pm. The plan was just to have drinks in the bar and chat with our guests (approx 25) but now i'm starting to panic that they will be bored and given the fact they are travelling a long way some are coming from London/Liverpool/Manchester i'm starting to worry they will think "is this it". Would you expect some entertainment if you had travelled a long way and paid for a hotel stay.

I don't think you need entertainment; it's optional; if you don't want any then don't have any :)

Because it's such a small group, I really don't think entertainment is necessary, and I actually think that entertainment could detract from the atmosphere, not add to it. To me, mingling and chatting sounds absolutely perfect; I really don't think anything else is necessary at all.

I agree with barbie, I think entertainment for larger groups is ok but smaller groups it doesnt matter because then everyone gets to chat etc xxx

    31st August 2013 I became Mrs Carrick
Cant wait to do it all over again in 2018

We did a similar thing. We had a sunset limo tour round Vegas which finished about 9pm. The 'oldies' (my mum, her friend and my dad's cousin and his wife) went and did their own thing, but we, along with our friends (6 of us in total), carried on the celebrations in one of the bars in the hotel. It was fantastic and so intimate. Perfect.
    I'd highly recommend it x

We got married at Gretna Hall Blacksmiths and our wedding was at 2.45pm. There was 19 of us in all, and we had our reception at the Solway Lodge Hotel at 4.30pm (finished around 7 or so).

Afterwards we met back in the hotel bar and stayed there for the night. We arranged with the hotel to bring our own CD's and they would play them (we made a couple of compilations) and we had a late bar til 1am.

None of our guests were bored and all said that they really enjoyed it (we could dance to our own music in the bar and even had a first dance). Some of the guests from both families hadn't really met before so enjoyed chatting as well (and because some family hadn't brought children they really let their hair down as well lol).

You should be okay with your timings and everything that you've planned because it's a really good atmosphere up there anyway.
