I'm more glad that I had the money there but one stress has led to another.

We got our dog neutered yesterday, and he had a complication of his surgery which meant we had to take him into out of hours vets 2am this morning.
I didn't have enough to pay for the emergency vet fees and OH doesn't get paid til Friday and as a result we've had to dip £250 into our wedding savings (I'm only putting £100 away every month) and there's only £400 left in the account now.

I'm glad my doggy is recovering but he's in our normal vets now, but as a result its like 2 and a half months of my saving for the wedding gone :( I can't afford to pay it back really without short changing myself.

    Boo.

I hate being an adult now :(

Being an adult sucks. Electricity company and tax man made a boo-boo so our outgoings is more than we hoped so wedding fund is getting small. Fortunately there's not much left to pay for now.

I was livid about electricty a few months back :( they installed a nice shiny gadget telling us how much we spend an hour/day on both gas and eletricity.

We were spending between £0.80 and £1.50 a day on both through being pedantic as hell.

A month later they increase our direct debit by £25 because of their 'yearly forecast'. Argh :(

With whats left in the account, and £100 a month pays of the venue and a little bit more of the honeymoon.

No dress, tux, bridesmaids and groomsmen outfits, rings, favours... :(

Do you know anyone that you can borrow any of the expensive things from? Favours are unnecessary, and rings can be bought very cheaply. You could even get some ultra cheap ones from Claire's Accessories for the symbolism of exchanging rings, and then get proper ones as an anniversary gift at some point when you've saved up. Maybe your bridesmaids would be willing to pay for their own outfits, given that they get to keep them.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Aw hun, I know how you feel! My H2B and I agreed an amount that we'd put away each month but I think in the 6 months we've been properly saving we've only managed the full amount once due to car issues and unforeseen circumstances!!

I agree that you could ask the bridesmaids and groomsmen to contribute towards there outfits (maybe in place of a wedding gift). Favours aren't crucial - I've been to weddings where they aren't touched and are forgotten at the end of the night!! If you haven't got a cake yet then you could consider somewhere like M and the S - I'm seriously considering this as they are a fraction of the price of most wedding cakes!

Also - have you considered becoming a power user on this site? You can pay monthly or pay a one off amount and then on chosen suppliers you can get discounts. I've had a look and am hoping to take full advantage of this!! xxx

Our cake is being made as a gift from a friend from MIL.

As for rings go - I need to be careful through nickel allergy. (However I do have two engagement rings, we are going to sell my old one as it has traces of nickel in and long-wear use aggrivates me)

Only 1 of my bridesmaids work - the other two are unemployed students.

groomsmen, 2 work, 1 unemployed. One of the working groomsmen lives alone and has had to take a second job to cover his bills so I dont think he'd be able to really :(

on plus my photography is sorted thanks to wowcher and we've met her - she's fab.

Trying to sort things out still!

Well I definatley know where you are all coming from. We are in the same boat. Our wedding is 10months away and although we have a good amount paid we still have a good amount to get together for the rest of it, I thought all was going well to be honest well that was until last friday our Landlords who currently live in France knocked on our door and informed us that the house in France had sold (we never knew it was on the market) and that they will be coming to live in our home so we will need to be out in 8weeks!!! Shocked wasnt the word. I was devasted, couldnt stop crying!!
So sat down with H2B and started looking at other rental properties but the market has moved so much since we first moved out. For some where half decent (not a fraction on what we have now) is at least another £200 a month!!! Absolutley gutted! Bad Timing!!

oh my mum had that happen to her robyn, because of a small increase they were trying to pretty much double her direct debit, she contacted them and found it was only £1.30 over and that was what they had based their yearly estimate increase on- contact them and see what you can do- my mum just told the idiot on the phone she would pay the £1.30 and they could bog off if they thought they could take an extra £50 from her a month for it

And my soul saw yours and said
"oh, I have been looking for you"
we met 07/09/2004. we loved 28/02/2012
    we'll marry- 14.08.2021

I would shop around I had hell on with a company they were trying to charge me £62 a month when I use below the daily average and now only pay £27 a month electric so its a big difference. Try switching from named brand shopping products to a cheaper alternative that are near enough the same as this can help save quite abit an also try diy for stationary etc to help cut cost, second hand dresses and suits for maids and groomsmen may also help cut cost x

    31st August 2013 I became Mrs Carrick
Cant wait to do it all over again in 2018

Ive had this with the electric company wanted to increase our dd to 230 a month. Seriously who uses that much electric? We also have another set back as h2b kindly isn't working. Again. But thinks we will be ok as I go bk to work in 3 weeks. Its disheartening I know chic could you not put 120 away a month until youve caught up xx

We've had problem with our bills, they try and estimate it, even though we send them the accurate readings. They tried to charge me £675 for 3 months gas/electric, on a Band B newly built 2 bed Eco home. I was furious! Toke me a few weeks and eventually "a mistake there end" appeared that no-one had saw before and my bill should of only be £165. They try and get as much out of you and hope you don't notice!

We've been lucky, with a friend doing our Photography. Spencers & Marks ;) there Wedding Cakes are amazing, starting from £199 for a 3 tier, so we're getting out from there and adding out own touches, i.e. ribbons ect.
I've made my own ring cushion, cake toppers, and doing my own invitations and place card holders.
Our ride to the venue, is a big green vintage open top bus, which we got free as my dad's a bus driver and has loads of friends who owe him favours haha, so he called one in for us.
My wedding dress, well i found out about *she who should not be named* and i think i'll be heading down that route.
As for Groomsmen, Prim@rk do great little waistcoats and shirt sets for next to nothing, as well as trousers. They're only going to wear it once so why pay expensive hire fees?
As for Bridesmaids, i avoid anything with bridesmaid dress within the title, i've found a couple of beautiful maxi dresses in the perfect purple colour starting from £30, i find you put Bridesmaid dress in the title it adds an extra £100!
And a honeymoon isn't going to happen for us. Passport prices are ridiculous, we've looked into going to Edinburgh, i really want to see the pandas at the zoo lol, but depends on how much we save here and there. Have you tried making your own bits and pieces - decor ect?

Unforeseen circumstance are a bugger. Our daughter's Christening bill keeps going up and up. I'm not even sure how! The phone keeps playing up and i think that's going to need replacing soon. August is a bugger for us, 12 relatives birthdays all at once. Saving is hard!

i keep on putting money away each month only for it to be used on - car repairs / car tax and basic day to day living.

I am fortunate that h2b is paying for the wedding package, but i have said i will pay for the flowers, photographer & cake, not to mention making invitations etc, getting table decorations, favours AAAARRRRGGGGH - !!!.. plus then there is the small detail of bridesmaids outfits etc .. think i had better buy a ticket that will win me a fortune or at least enough to pay for these...

We're making the invites ourselves, so money saved there. I had more or less decided on going with she who must not be named for my dress - I wouldn't pay more than £500 for my dress anyway!

At least I'm not alone in my struggles!

We are using an online company for the mens hire suits, just £57 for the whole suit with long jacket, trousers, shirt, waistcoat and cravat, lots of different styles etc, chuffed to nuts, anyone wants to know let me know and I will put the link on your page. My bridesmaids I am going to get via bay of e, as you can get some gorgeous chiffon bridesmaid dresses for under £30 from China and as I have 5 bridesmaids, thats where I am going. Made my own save the dates, making my own invitations, menu cards, rsvps and thank you cards, along with the place setting board, making my own candy station, and perusing for favours now as well, got ages to go, but like everyone else, saving is hard at moment, especially with 6 - 7 weeks of school holidays coming up!!!! and a daughters birthday, car mot, registration fees etc, it all adds up and stops the saving process!!! I have splashed out on my dress, but only as I am a plus size bride, so wanted it to come from a shop for extra reassurance etc. Shoes I have bought in sale on Deb-hams for just £22 barggggggain lol. I am making my own brooch bouquets for myself and bridesmaids and have started work on the mens buttonholes so quite chuffed with what I have achieved so far. I have bought a wedding tree off bay of e for £11, will die cut a load of tags for that. :) x
