Well we are finally looking at booking our honeymoon to be around our first anniversary due to my commitments throughout the year. We have our heart set on a hotel in Egypt, but I really would like to do an excursion to the pyramids. Anyhoo, I've looked around and found one that does them, it includes the pyramids, sphinx, a museum and lunch on the Nile. It's with a company who do 'excursions' in 'sharm'. They do either a coach or plane. Obviously the plane is more expensive but does not take up so much time. Picks up at 5am an.d back just after 9pm, whereas the coach is pick up at midnight.
I know all the trouble is kicking off over there at the moment but we have a whilst yet before we have to book and. I've spoken with my travel agent friend who thinks things should be ok then.
I was wondering if anyone had used or heard of the company who do excursions in Sharm and if they are any good.

It may be wise to avoid Egypt for a while. Although the Red Sea areas are without troubles (at the moment) nobody really knows how long the turmoil could last for, especially if people are getting hurt and killed. The protests and attacks are happening more in the Cairo area which is close to the Pyramids and Sphinx. I love Egypt, the country is amasing and the ancient history fascinates me but it's not worth going there yet, it's not worth putting your safety at risk. Yet saying that the government have warned that people should only go to Egypt (except Red Sea) if absolutely necessary.

Is it a company beginning with S? I'm not sure if I can say it on here. I am going to sharm next month for my honeymoon and will be booking excursions with them. From another group I'm in on fb for Egypt quite a lot of people recommend it and that's enough for me :)

When I went for the first time we stayed in Luxor. We took a trip up to Cairo to see the pyramids etc. We took the night train, without a guide. Whatever you don't do that!!!
Definitely go through an organised tour. Although more expensive, I'd probably go with the plane option, if you can. It's a long journey on a coach from Sharm.

My fiance and I are going on a cruise which stops at Alexandria and Port Said, for an excursion to Cairo. The advantage of a cruise is that if things are still kicking off in Egypt we can reroute, but we do want to visit Egypt.

How on earth would your travel agent friend know it will be ok then? No one knows if it will be ok then... Steer clear....

The buses they use for excursions in Egypt are not very advanced and you will sweat your pants off, I would only book the excursion through your hotel or tour operator and I wouldn't book it now because of the issues over there, you should be able to book ths when they discuss the excursions at the welcome meeting, that way you could wait to see what the score with the trouble is later rather than taking a chance now.

Yes Joanne it does. I will defo do the plane one if we do it though, cannot be bothered sitting on a bus for an age!! Defo worth the extra money.
I'm not looking at booking a holiday there just yet, I was going to wait for things to die down before that happens.

Quite a few people say to book through your travel operator but I don't agree with it. They do charge a lot more than they need to. I'm very sure the company has stopped all excursions to Cairo. So all you can do is wait and see what happens.
I'm more interested in the local things they have but I'll bookmark this and let you know how they are. But the English woman who owns the company seems very nice and helpful.

Hey hun, we were out there the last time there was trouble (tbf, theres always some kind of trouble) but honestly the tourists dont go anywhere near the problem areas, they look after you and would cancel the trip if it was unsafe. With regards to booking, I would wait until you are there, and either book through your travel rep (if you get one) or if not at the hotel reception, to avoid any cowboys!! And definitely take the plane, the bus journey is so long you would probably end up wanting to stay in a hotel there for the night which is extra, or you only get half a day to look at everything and its rushed xx

Thanks for that. I think if we do it it will be by plane. I've looked at the one Joanna mentioned and its different to the one I found, but seems more legit if you know what I mean. Still got almost 3 months before we go and not booked anything yet. Thought I would leave it a couple of weeks before doing that to see if it all died down.

Personally there is no way you'd get me going to Egypt right now, the country is on the brink of civil war... I'd suggest doing a bit more research into the situation before booking anything. Some tour operators have already made the decision to cancel trips and they don't do that if there nothing to worry about.
