Hello ladies ( and gents as I know there are a few among us)
I have had a account on here for a while now but havent really gotten into posting even though I visit and read often.
I thought I would say a proper hello and lay out my story...
I met my H2B online in 2009 in a bingo site chat room. I was living in Shropshire at the time having come out of a failed marriage of almost 4 years. Miguel (H2B) was living in Peterborough - a single dad with 2 kids after a failed marriage also. Neither of us were expecting to find anyone special but I guess something somewhere had other ideas. We chatted for a while and 'met' officially on 29th Jan 2010 as part of a site meet up and something just clicked. The distance meant that we had to take a chance on 'us' working out - and after a week 'trial' with him and the kids we took the leap of faith and I moved from Shropshire to Peterborough. We got engaged in May 2011 after a family loss made us have to spend time apart once again and H2B said it 'didnt feel right' me not being with him. Lol We did a little planning whilst in Peterborough but knew we wanted to move and were offered a exchange to where we are now in Gainsborough in Lincolnshire. We jumped at the opportunity as we knew it suited all the family needs much more. The main point being both teenage children had better schools (Stepdaughter has learning difficulties and ADHD) Planning has really taken off this past year when we viewed the registry office here as its set in the local park. We are pretty much all set now with just a few little things to finalaise and just the drinks for the reception to save for.
With us both having done weddings before we've learnt what we want or dont want. Also its not going to be traditional in many ways as both my partners family and my own arent a huge part of our lives for different reasons.
We are having our reception in a village hall, and as we have a lot of online friends many of the guest we will be meeting for the first time in person that day due to the fact they are spread throughout the country an we've not gotten round to meeting them yet so this way kills two birds with one stone so to speak.
Also as its a village hall we are providing all the food and drink for our guests as we know they will all need to stay overnight and sort accomodation to enable them to enjoy the day to the fullest.
Its this that drew me here - oh and a discussion on online wedding dress sites - I was looking for anyone else doing a village hall reception where they were providing the drink themselves.
This place is addictive though and I am here daily reading all about your planning and hiccups.
Apologies for the long post but I felt like I needed to introduce myself properly.
Hello! from Gillian :)

That is such a lovely story of how you two met and took a chance. Can't help you with the village hall situation though sorry.

Nice, I know where that is, I've seen plenty of caterers advertising online who also do bar hire for around £150, some local to gainsborough to, let me know if you want me to post a link on your wall.
Thanks for the offer but we are staying away from having a 'bar' as this would mean expensive drinks for guests and we want them to be able to stay which as I mentioned would mean they need accomodation so wouldnt like to have to make them spend out for drinks as well as their rooms and travelling to us as none of them are really local.
We will supply drinks and if they wish to bring their own as well they can as its a village hall and there is no restriction on it. Another reason against the bar idea as the alcohol can not be 'sold' without applying for a liscence so it gets too complex.
We've been checking out the supermarkets for prices and we are looking to be able to get the 60 guests (some of which are kids) enough drink to make sure they are able to enjoy the evening within our budgeted amount :)

Im also getting married in a village hall just round the corner from my house. We've managed to get around the booze license malarky because the Gala committee have offered to do the bar, therefore yes our guests will pay for drink, but since all the booze was bought by the gala committee at low cost, wont be extortionate. We were going to do as you are Giggler, and buy it all in, but it was just proving to be bank breaking! xx PS well done on your first gold heart! No idea how much is needed to get there, I am still on Newbie status! :)

Sounds like you got the best of both worlds Susie - we are hoping all the guests appreciate what have laid on - after all free is free.
20,000 is how many points you need for first gold heart - you will be suprised how fast you tot them up once you get involved in a couple of convos or ongoing discussions!
You wont be a newbie for long! :)

I hope all your guests do appreciate all you are putting on for them!! I am sure they will! We were lucky someone locally suggested it, so what we have saved on the drink, we have spent on the Hog Roast. So it has made our lives a lot easier!
Ahhh, ok, thank you for letting me know! Yes, I was noticing the points seemed to tot up quick!!
