Hi all was at my best friends wedding last week and she had her sweet buffet set up in the room and everyone just dived in and opened everything and one of the glass lids got smashed...

As well be setting up our own sweet table and itll be in the room whilst we eat our wedding breakfast I need a way of letting people know it won't be open until the evening guests arrive...

I thought maybe of using posts and tying organza to them and putting them around the front of the table with a sign or something anyone got any better ideas?

Could you get a nice bit of fabric to cover it? We'll be needing to do something along those lines unless I can convince bms to set up whilst the rooms being turned around! X

I like the idea of the posts and tying organza round them with a sign. I think if you were to put material over the whole table, it might look a bit strange, like a big mound kind of thing. You could even remind people in a speech or something that the sweet buffet will be open from .... time xxx

    I don't agree.

I think Helen's suggestion is the best one. Drape a tablecloth or something over it. A sign is in effect, telling guests to go away - you want them to stay :o)))))

The reminder in the speech is a good idea though. I would definatley do that

Put a sign up saying no sweets till later in the evening so all of our guests get their equal share in the sweet buffet and tie it around the sweet bowl or hide the utensils away and the sweet bags so no one can take any sweets till later on in the evening if that helps =D ♥ X

Might be too much work in turnaround time, but, could you not set up all your jars and bowls and things and dress the table but without putting the sweets in? Bag up the sweets (try them in the jar first so you know how many you'll need per bag) and have them say in a box somewhere then when you want them to be available someone could be in charge of tipping them into the jars? Won't work so much for you if what you want is the visual effect of the actual sweets themselves - but if you dressed the jars nicely it might be a nice build up for those there through the day knowing that in the evening they'll all be filled up! :)

I'm setting up our sweetie table too so must be done early morning.. Our hotel said they are very used to this and normally just cover it with a large table cloth until the evening x

At our venue, the room is kind of partitioned off so we have the wedding breakfast then they make the room bigger. Our sweet table will be in the other side of the room so guests won't be able to see it until they open the room up for the evening do

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
is just to love and be loved in return

Instead of a table cloth how about buying a large length of organza in your colour scheme to drape over all of it? That way it's still visible, and matching the theme, but essentially it will look Off Limits, along with a little reminder in the speeches?

I'm not that worried about everyone starting early, although my mum has said she's going to do a couple of sweetie bags for me and H2B, as she was at a wedding recently where the bride and groom were so caught up in the day that they forgot to get any of the sweets! However, I love the idea of the organza, so that everyone can see what it is. I'm not sure that the signs/posts would work, as I know some people would just ignore them anyway! Our venue wanted to have our sweetie cart out in the foyer, and we've asked to have it in the room. I don't want normal hotel guests helping themselves to our sweets!

we know everyone loves a sweet,
and these are just waiting for someone to eat,
but what makes them taste that little bit greater,
is if you can wait til we open them later!!!

I made this up to protect mine and have made it on a little board with ribbon tied to it which i will tie around the jars on the day! i like it as its telling them they will get them but they will need to wait til we open them.

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

    Thanks girls...

    Laura I love that poem

My only concern with putting something over it is it might look like a weird lump of stuff to one side

Lol we could cut a ribbon and declare it open haha!
