Almost three years ago now, I asked my boyfriend to marry me and we had planned everything, we were to be married on November 2. But disaster struck earlier this year by me being made redundant and my fiance earning barely enough for us to live on. I've been trying desperately to get another job but no one will hire me. How can we raise the money without having to resort to extreme measures?

Remember a wedding only costs what you make it cost. You can make stuff like your stationary, your flowers, decorations and cake yourself.
You can get your dress second hand or off the rack or from she who must not be named for half the price it would have cost new.
You can ask your friends and family to bring food instead of gifts, if every couple brought a big bowl of pasta or salad you wouldn't have to pay for any food.
You can also buy the drinks from big outlets like c0stc0 or macro. There are so many thing you can do.
You can even get married on a week day to reduce the cost of the registrar.
When it comes to reception venues or venues in general look for church halls, village halls or even a gazebo in someones back garden.
If you want hot food you could think about big joints of meat that can be cooked before the wedding and wrapped in foil to keep warm. There is so so much you can do.
One last thing, think hard about the time you want to get married, if you did it at 9am you would have to give people lunch and dinner which pretty much doubles the cost. If you get married at 1pm you only have to provide dinner. There was a lady on here who did her wedding for under 1000 pounds.
Hope this helped. x

Think tatty has said most of it.
Do you have stuff laying around the home that you could possibly sell? I sold loads of stuff and managed to buy loads of stuff with the money I made from it.

i agree with everyone whole heartedly it can be done! look for package deals in hotels maybe consider travelling a bit? have you seen gretna green they do some great packages or just look at hotels nearby look at all the options i have managed to get a cliff top hotel over looking the sea for the ceremony with a 40 guest wedding breakfast for £1200 that includes chair covers toast drinks and some flowers, it hen booked the local football club who are always in need of funding for my reception they didnt charge for hire as they will get all the profit from the bar and everything else im making its amazing what you can make out of things you already have or cost pence and my beautiful dress came from the bay of e as did my bm dresses fg dresses and pageboy suits which is 2 bm dresses 2 fg dresses and 2 pageboy suits and my dress and hubby2b suit and have got change from £200!! used friends and family and maybe pop into the local college see if they have any photography students who would be up for taking pics if you get 3 or 4 the likely hood is you will get a great range of photos at a very reasonable price!! i Like glitter have also been selling all the clutter we have accumulated over the last 6 years which so far has paid for my registra :) so it can be done just be realistic set a realistic date then work your socks off :)
One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!
You can definitely make it special without spending a huge amount of money, remember it's about you and your OH and not about buying lunch & dinner for 100+ people. Your friends and family will be happy to celebrate with you whether you spend £5 per person or £50 xxx

Look for any local clubs/pubs that have a free function room that you can hire and many will offer a buffet free of charge or at a reduced rate with guaranteed numbers attending as they know they will make a huge profit on the bar bill. Ebay and gumtree are great to get alot of your decorations cheap and if you can enlist your friends and family to help with decorating you will again be able to cut costs there.
There was a wedding special of that programme superscrimpers last year. Look on youtube for clips of it and try get some pointers there. The couple done a whole wedding for under £300 xx

Good ideas ladies! I'll try my best but now I've got to convince my fiance to actually START helping me save up. He's convinced that there are more important things to save for yet.

Excellent ideas/advice from the ladies above. I really would try and view the superscrimpers clips on youtube, it's worth a watch.
I hope you convince your other half to start saving... even if it's just a little each month, it's better than nothing :) x

Ravenwithbite...sit down and chat honestly about what is coming in and going out from each of your accounts. From there you can workout how much each of you can realistically put away each month.
This week was the first time I foun dout how much my h2b earns every month, how much the mortgage is and how much he has left. While he earns more then I do, he also pays out more then I do so we have agreed to leave the bills as they are and I will just put more money into the savings account than he does but we worked out that we can save a fair amount over the next 3 years but it not gives us a budget to work towards.
Maybe you can tell him the savings account will cover not only the wedding but also any other things that you are saving for but any withdrawels need to be agreed by both of you xx
