    Hey Guys,

I've been looking at villas and selecting 'All destinations' so basically what I'm looking for is anyone who has been to these countries and/or the areas and can offer their opinions :-)

We're looking for a place that isn't too windy as I hated Fueturventura.. Close enough to facilities like supermarkets and restuarants, but not near the massive clubs.. Where there is still culture from the country we're in, not somewhere that has been turned into England abroad !! Not full of 'English' pubs with 'English' breakfasts etc lol.. We want to go abroad to enjoy their food and culture, not eat what we eat and do what we do back here..

So what I want to know is:

What's the weather like in beginning-mid July? Windy, rainy, etc..

What's the atmosphere like? Are the locals friendly? Is it a 'from England to England' type place?

Do people avoid certain areas because of crime etc?

Ummm and obviously any other opinions you have :-)

    The places are::

*Costa Teguise, Lanzarote (I've been to Fueturventura and didn't like the wind at all, is it like that ?)
    *Calpe, Costa Blanca
    *Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote
    *Estoi, Algarve
    *Cala d'Or, Mallorca

    Thanks in Advance :-) xxx

I have been to Lanzarote and Mallorca and they are both like Fueturventura (I think they are in the same group of islands?) So they are all known for their breezes (usually that's why people like it there, because it isn't so hot!) So maybe steer clear of there. I don't know about the others though xxx

I know Lanzarote is but hoping it was more like Tenerife than Fueturventura.. Mallorca isn't a canary island though.. Might cross those off the list then lol.. Thanks Linzi Jo xxx

I've been to Cala d'Or in Mallorca, although it was quite a few years ago. I stayed a way out of the main town, the other side of the harbour and had about a 1km walk to get to the main town, although the walk was around the harbour and was lovely.

The beaches there are beautiful, lots of little coves, although I think there is a larger, more built up beach with a couple of shops and restaurants around the outside. The harbour area was lovely although if I remember correctly much more expensive than the main town. There were a couple of clubs scattered around the harbour when I was there, although they were down steps and hidden away so didn't spill out onto the street.

I didn't go into the main town too often as most of what we wanted was nearer, and so I spent a lot of time relaxing in my own hotel. We went to the town during the evening sometimes. There was an Irish bar, and some of the bars had English singers, although they weren't too noisy. The atmosphere was great, very relaxed. If you are looking for a totally non-English place I'm not sure it would be perfect though as there were some as I've mentioned. I really liked it though because I felt it had a great mix. You could avoid the English bars/menus if you didn't want them.

Like I say, it was ages ago that I went there (about 10 years I think) so it may have changed a lot since then, and my memory isn't fantastic so I may not remember exactly, but thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and would definitely go back.

I hope that helps. I haven't been to the other places so can't compare - sorry! x

MrsP2b, that's great thank you ! We don't want to avoid English like the plague lol, but don't want to go somewhere that is literally JUST English bars and restaurants like some places are..

Ooo Lala, never thought of doing that ! Thanks xxx

Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote isn't so breezy - and if you stay near to the old town there's lots of restaurants (traditional) as well as bars (not just English). About a 15 minute walk from the old town is the 'strip' which stretches for miles (very flat so good to walk and explore) and has gorgeous beaches. On the strip there are more bars and that's where the nightclubs are as well.

We visited there in mid April and the temperatures reached upto 30 on some days (so very hot during the summer months). It seemed like a very safe place as well - and you don't even get timeshare sellers bothering you (we didn't see one all holiday).

I loved the place so much I've already told hubby that I want to retire there lol.

It's just called Puerto del Carmen as far as I know - but it's known as the old town and newer part of town (ie the Strip). The old town started off as a fishing village and still has quite a busy harbour.

We stayed in one of the hotels on Calle Reina Sofia, which was a 5 minute walk from the old town and half way up a hill but on a main road, so we were close for most things. If you look on maps for Avenida las Playas that's the strip and busier.

And if you keep going east there's different areas along the coast (which leads to the airport about 10 minutes drive away).

    Hope that helps x
