our caterer has let us down due to personal circumstances so we need to find another one or we was thinking of a pig roast so was just wondering if anyone has had a pig roast for their wedding meal and was it any good (good value for money, guests enjoyed it etc)?
    thank you

We're having a hog roast and I've been to two weddings where they've had them, there's easily enough meat to feed up to 200 ppl on one and they serve lots of potatoes and pastas and coleslaws and salads with them and a bap bun with apple sauce and stuffing ... It's a really good feast, and u don't pay for all your guests but there is still plenty to go round ... Well worth the money, think ours is £6 a head and the guests won't go disappointed they will love it and be full after it... With a little room for more drinks x

I love a hog roast personally, and I know a lot of people who do. Our venue isn't suitable for hog roasts unfortunately but the prices seem reasonable...however I think you need an alternative too for guests who are vegetarian or don't eat pork (but I think most catered include a vegetarian option in the price).

I think it works well as an evening option, not sure if it would be enough for the 'main' wedding meal xx

Oh yeh...I would just say, ours is an evening meal, our caterer is still doing us a 3 course wedding breakfast at 3pm, hog roast at 9pm ... We haven't been provided with a vegetarian option as we only have one veggie but all the salad/pasta/potatoes and coleslaw are vegetarian x

I went to a Wedding that had one and I was really disappointed, as I hate pork.
And, they didn't have any salads or anything so I went hungry.

My caterer wanted to do pulled pork rolls until I told him much I hate it!!!

    :-)

We are considering a hog roast for our evening buffet. We went to a party a few months ago and they had one and it worked out great value for money. I was wondering if everyone would like it, but most people did, including me. I think when you have to choose 1 meal for 70 people there is a good chance that there would be a few people who wouldn't like it - the same with any meal, but like kelbel said, with a few extras I think you can cater for everyone. Especially if you have puddings etc. I think its a great idea.

These prices seem reasonable. We are having a hog for the evening... Bt we have to use the venues caterers. Our hog is priced per person, and will work out approx £1500 for 120 people. Haven't yet discovered if it includes salads etc yet tho.

We are having a hog roast for the equivalent of 80 evening guests (but this is enough for 2 baps each)! We are then providing a regular buffet (in terms of numbers roughly for 50) as we know there are a lot of people who wont like hog roast!

The average price for one in my area seems to be around £1500 to serve 100-150 people. IMPO, this is excellent value for money, as they're very filling, and work out at £10 or less per head. We're paying £50 a head for our wedding breakfast, so something like that would have saved a fortune. Likewise, we're paying about £1500 for our evening buffet, which is a selection of 6 items to serve 80; a hog roast would have worked out as much better value, and I love the smell of food cooking, I think it really adds to it.
