We got engaged in sept last year, but as my oh sister had only got engaged a few months before, we said we'd wait til they had there engagement party as there's was planned for October/November time. Then I said we'd have it after Xmas as was too close to Christmas. So now I need to sort it. But I haven't a clue where to start. I know I need a venue but can't think of anywhere that's not stupidly expensive. How much notice should we give people too?

Most engagement parties I've been to have been in function rooms of pubs/bars - a lot of the more sophistaceted bars have very nice party rooms that they will higher out for free xx

We said we'll invite day/evening guests which totals 150 so need one to fit that amount of people. We're do food ourselves n dj sorted just need venue :( do think a pub would be big enough so thought of halls but not sure how to find them online x

Think the first thing you need to do is find a place that you and your hubby are happy to have your party and is realistic for your budget. Also somewhere where family and friends are going to be comfortable getting to i.e. grampa going upstairs not good in wheelchair!
We booked hours a couple of weeks ago down the local pub, it's a country pub and we hired out the restaurant. Got loads of decorations and They are doing food for us..buffet! My mums making cupcake cake, my mother-in-law is making love heart shaped Welsh cakes ( as we live in Wales lol) Went on Pinterest for some ideas the decorations so far have made three garlands saying happy engagement in different coloured paper, have ordered three balloon bouquets in our colours we've chosen and ordered table confetti. All in all is cost us around £280 for venue, decs, food, music is free (curtosiy of little brother mix tape),cake, invites(I diy and bought stick on diamontes ;) )

Just remember its personal to you!!

I just struggling with the dress now. 11th of may for us...dead excited!!

we had ours in a local pub that it was free to use the function room in, we gave everyone 4 weeks notice and only a handful couldnt come, we had 70 odd people show up (which we weren't expecting) and my mam and MIL did the buffet (in competition with each other so it was amazing!) i got decorations from the bay of e so managed to decorate the place for about a tenner. and me and H2B both wore what we were wearing the night he proposed, so i was in a lush dress and him fully suited up :) xxx
