How far in advance do you usually book the church? We met with the vicar after we got engaged nearly two years ago and he mentioned he only had about 3 weddings a year. We've gone ahead and booked the venue. I was worried before that if we booked the date the vicar would forget- he's very old and disorganized and has now been taken ill. We're getting married 16th August 2014- do you think we need to get back in touch with the vicar yet? We live in Newcastle and are getting married in Wiltshire so we can't just pop in, thinking of writing a letter so it's in writing. Worried if we call it'll get put on a post it note and lost in the vestry! No email address avaliable. Thanks!

I would book it now. Even if the vicar remembers your date, there are usually other people who help run the parish and can take bookings also. If it's in the churches/ parish diary, then that double booking shouldn't happen.

Plus, you have nothing to lose by booking it in advance (get a confirmation in writing).

I booked mine last April for 30th August 2014 (2 weeks after you)! Vicar wrote it into his diary and will move it accross to his new ones each year up until then. I wouldn't book the reception until I had confirmation that the Church was booked as had to make sure we could have the date and time we wanted. If you have already booked your reception then I would get the Church booked up asap if I were you hun xxx

I'd book it now seeing as you've already booked the venue.

i would book now and make sure it is in writing. also lots of churches have a church office with an admin person so it might be worth trying to get hold of them x

I would chat to him again. We booked our church a year in advance (I couldn't do it any earlier as I was still waiting for the ring!) they just put our wedding sheet in a folder and kept it safe. Our vicar didn't contact is to do official wedding things until about 2 months before our wedding.

I would book now and ensure you have it in writing. Our Priest put it in the Parish diary so that if I spoke to another Priest or the Church secretary they could see what had been arranged and booked as this one is a very large Parish with 3 Priests. Good job it is in the diary as someone else has had to answer my queries before and could just refer to the diary to do this x

I would book now. I booked my church 2 years ago. Luckily our vicar had email so I have a copy of everything that has been sent/received.

How did you book the church? We've been to the church but was nobody about. We rang the number on the notice board and left a message on the answer machine (it says to call between 7pm and 8pm on Monday evenings to enquire about weddings) Do you think it would be best to go to a service and have a chat with the vicar afterwards? x

Yeah if you cant get hold of them on the phone or if they done have email then go see them after a service, or go to the parish office when thats open? I know churches near me only have the office open at certain times so youd need to check that out for your church x

I would write a letter hun confirming your date and ask for a confirmation letter. We also struggled to get hold of the priest at our church and are now having a civil ceremony xx
