I put a holiday form in at work for 1 weeks either side of the wedding - boss has give my them back saying I cant put them in till next april, and its 1st come 1st served!!! plus girl on the same department as me is a bridesmaid and was going to take week b4 aswell to help me ect
as only 2 people are allowed to be off together it has to be me and her!!!! am so mad, I went over her head and that boss said to sort it out with her, all she has got to say is "the world dosnt revolve around my wedding and other people have every right to have holidays in them weeks and by trying to put them in now I am being unfair"
I am being unfair are you kidding me!!!!!!!
Cant wait for my Tiffany & co, wedding - July 16th 2011

Oh jeez, that's daft hun, so what happens if you don't get it in quick enough, are they gonna pay for the wedding to be moved???
CommentAuthorAngelaeris
of course your not being unfair its not every year you get married is it! people can have holidays any other time of the year! just make sure you ask people in your office if they are thinking to book those weekends off would they mind re scheduling for other weeks. that way it wont matter what your boss says
21st September 2011 the day I became Mrs Davis!

Hi ya hun as a manager in charge of hol's etc i know a bit about this :-) First when is your hol period from ie mines from march to march and h2b's is jan to jan. If its jan to jan the earliest you can put them in is jan 1st. So if thats the case i recommend you do that and if the boss moans its too early refer her to the NATIONAL holiday terms i think its called (i'm not working anymore but we had a manuel that i went by which is for ALL company's not just ours). I used to put mine in for the whole year at once to coinside with school hol's. Hope this helps a little babe.

my moms work is like that. first come first served. my mom made sure she was there at 7am on the dot on the day they could be handed in, and she gave it to the person whos in charge of the holidays. she made sure she was the first one there lol. maybe you and your bm should do that? be there first thing on the day.x

I have NEVER in my working life been allowed to put in annual leave requests unless the days are in that current annual leave year....so, I am not suprised.
I agree with getting to work on the 1st day of your next leave cycle and handing in your request forms pronto!
CommentAuthorMrs Buzzlightyear
well this is why I am so mad other departments are allowed to put theirs in - some of my friends from other departments have a days hols in for my wedding!!! and ME - THE BRIDE cant!!!!! its down to the department manager she has never stopped people doing it b4.........

Just make sure you get them in on the first day as soon as you can, if you and her get your forms in at 9am on 1st April (or whenever it is they're due in) then you should get the dates. Even give them in the day before to be on the desk for as soon as managers get in xx
CommentAuthorPossum
Going to be against the general consensus here but they are running a business. The holidays can't be put in until a certain date, and they need rules. First come, first serve is the fairest way to do it. I'm sure if someone else got the holiday you wanted you could negotiate with them to have your wedding date off and they can have a different week of holiday. Good luck!!

OMFG can you go over her head ....id send request into head office and explain whey you both need that time off .........
My h2bs workplace hols run feb to feb and hes been allowed to take 2weeks off for June next year. Im guessing its just down to the company, pretty crap if you ask me x

I'm lucky because I work in a school - so we've booked our wedding at the beginning of August next year. H2B's work isn't as good though. He works for the NHS on a dialysis ward and his holidays run April to April. He's already asked if he can have 4 weeks off for August next year (he's allowed 2 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks in the winter). He's been told to put his request in writing to the matron - but it's first come first served. In August some of the other workers book time off to look after grandkids because the parents are working etc - and holidays are often booked before April. H2B has been told to apply for holiday late this year/early next - but told he might get 2 weeks paid and 2 weeks unpaid. I've told him he needs to push for all paid though, as other members of staff have had a month off during the summer for long holidays and been paid.

Yeah we're the same Mym, H2B works for the NHS, so we can't plan a honeymoon as we just don't know what work rotation he'll be on! They will be understanding with the actual wedding week though. How many people are there in your department Mrs Buzzlightyear? Surely no one is going to try to book the same weeks as you unless they're completely heartless?? Although even if everyone says they won't I would still do as the others say, and leave the request on your managers desk the night before and then be there at 7am the next day too. And also be nice to her....even if she's being pathetic, you want her to want to give you the holiday! x

l think your boss is being unfair and stupid as the sign of good management is forward planning, as a mgr l have to plan with my colleagues and yes we do have to restrict the numbers, but if you have foresight when an extra colleague needs time off then you can plan around it and l think 15months notice is more than enough notice!!!! he/she shld look at the back of thier diary it does give you a calender for 2011after all, your boss should use the flexibilty of other colleagues to cover the bridesmaid and ensure you all have the time off, that's very bad management or thier behalf and a stupid comment to ask you resubmit, go back and challenge it again and tell her that she could cause you stress which will result in absence and this is not doing the best for retention now is it!!! maybe she is just makeing you suffer a little which is EVIL!! because this could really make you ill with worry, don't invite her to your reception ither xx l bet she's jealous!
CommentAuthorPossum
Although I seemed pro-boss before, I really do think that it would make things easier for them to have the hols sorted asap!
CommentAuthorskitty666
that is so unfair!! if you cant get it booked of now then just keep puting in request everyweek and bug her till she says yes xx
