My OH is Scottish and wont entertain anything other than a CofE church. The church i want to marry in is "Church of England -with worship style - modern catholic". I've never come across this before, can anyone tell me what this is?

Though I was at a Church of Ireland service recently in the church we're getting married in and I was surprised at how similar it was to a Catholic service, considering it's a Protestant church.

The Church of England is using the word "catholic", lower case c, instead of Catholic, upper case c.

The word catholic on its own means universal, so your church is saying that they are firmly rooted in the UNIVERSAL tradition of the Church of England (which does differ from the Episcopalian Church here in America).

The Catholic Church and the Church of England do look very similar, but they are different. King Henry VIII LOVED the Catholic Church and was even named Defender of the Faith by the Pope about 10 years before he split from the Church due to his lust of women. So when he split, he didn't want to lose what he loved about the Catholic Church, thus why we do seem so similar, but they are different.

Your child would be baptized under the Church of England and would NOT be Catholic.

Your church should be able to tell if you were baptized by the Church of England, especially if you know the church you were baptized at. If you were married by the Church of England, they would notate it on your baptismal certificate.

I'm not sure what the "special lessons" were except maybe Catechesis lessons...

The Catholic Church has the authentic Eucharist, the Church of Englad does claim to have the Eucharist, but because of the Apostolic break from the Catholic Church, the Eucharist the Church of England claims to have is invalid. Over in America, it's even more muddled because the Episcopalian Church claims it's whatever you want it to be--the Eucharist, just bread, heck they'd be okay if you decided it's changed into a frito!

The Eucharist IS only for Catholics and thus why you were not able to receive when you attending Catholic Mass, for one must be Catholic and in a state of grace to receive the Eucharist, as it IS the Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ under the guise of bread and wine.

If you're not sure what you want to do, I recommend you talk to both a Church of England priest and a Catholic priest and talk to them about the differences and beliefs and see which one you wish to join.

This is from yahoo answers, I think it explains what youre asking xx

I've had a google, but cant find anything relevant.
It's baffled me. The CofE website states "a christian presence in every community" - but modern catholic. I'm going to ring tomorrow

    Very interesting thread.

Sorry I can't help (I'm RC but never heard of CofE modern Catholic).

I agree with the info about Catholic's believing in the Eucharist being the body of Christ. Whereas my understanding is that other denominations have the bread and wine to almost like re-enact the last supper.
