Hi ladies, it's been a very long time since I logged onto UKB. I feel like I can now share (in writing) how it all went for me...
The week before the wedding was manic, I was a MESS! I know now, that I was trying to do too much on my own. I made myself ill with stress and worry. Don't do this, it should be a fun and exciting time. Delegate. Don't sweat the small stuff. Who cares how the bridesmaids are getting their bags from the church to the venue or how Great Aunt Mary is going to cope with all the grass and her wheelchair? Not the bride or groom, that's for sure. It really doesn't matter!!
So, we got married on 2nd June this year, it was raining in the morning but in the afternoon it cleared up. I was up from 5am, too excited, couldn't sleep etc! But before all this, the night before the wedding, we were having a girly night at Mum's with all the BM's and then we got a phone call from some of our family from Birmingham who said that they couldn't come! The NIGHT BEFORE?! I was livid and my Mum flew off the handle, she's cut all family ties with them and it all got v messy (another story!). However, even though there was less than 24 hours to go, we got on the phone to some of the evening guests and asked them very nicely if they could come (There was going to be a table of just 2 people otherwise!) And luckily for us, and the 2 lonely guests, they were all delighted to be asked. I was very embarrassed and worried that this was going to look rude at such short notice but I would recommend that you do this too if you're faced with a guest dilemma as they honestly were thrilled to be back up day guests :)
On the day, most things went smoothly, there were a few hiccups but nothing to worry about at all (things like I'd missed 2 guests off the room list and they had to go to the Travelodge - woops! and my Mum missed the 1st dance.... eep!) we had a wonderful day and it was all over soooooo quickly! The next day we zoomed off on honeymoon for a month - a very long time when you're buzzing from the wedding and I don't know if I would do this again as I just wanted to stay and talk to all our friends and fam, open the cards and then maybe go away a couple of days later. Just a personal thing I guess.
After the honeymoon was over and I was back to work I had a major come-down. It really hit me that all the planning was over and I spiralled into a depression. The doctor calls it post-nuptial depression and many brides suffer from it as the whole process of the planning is so hyped up that your expectations are often much higher than reality. This was compacted by the fact that my grandpa died only a month before the wedding and I think that I had bottled up all my feelings about that while I focussed on the planning. Silly to do this cos it comes back to bite you on the bum afterwards. I'm now seeing a councillor and am slowly mending.
Anyway, I'm sorry if this post seems negative, I've been meaning to come on here and share with you all, that you'll be expected to be 'Happily Married' but that's not how it works for everyone and for some people it takes a bit longer to fall into that bracket. But I know that I will get there. On the plus side, my hubby is fab and has been extremely supportive, I couldn't have done it without him. The day itself was a whirlwind and (excuse the cliche) but I really did feel like a princess all day, like your feet don't even touch the ground. Couple of piccies for you to see below and more in my albums.
Happy planning and keep your cool, it's only one day and you'll have a blast whatever the weather or even if things go wrong :)

My friend had a similar experience, really struggled after the wedding with nothing to plan and look forward too so not as uncommon as people think, she felt stiupid as everyone thought she should be enjoying married life but it was the same as before. I'm glad you are feeling better though !

What a lovely wedding :) You look so happy and relaxed, and like you were having a great time. So sorry about how you felt afterwards, and I'm glad you're getting the help you need. I think many people find it hard to admit they're depressed and talk about it, so well done you!

With the whirlwind of planning we forget the build up of stress. I'm at a chilled period of planning but I know it's about to go really mad. I just want to enjoy Christmas and get on with it after.
You look absolutely stunning on your day Hun and it will all fall into place soon. Thanks for posting a frank outline of your day, it's so helpful to take a step back and look at it realistically. It's only one day and then it's the rest of our lives. I'm glad you've got a good man helping you through. Here's to your first Christmas as Mrs Wilson. xx
