my ring (in bits and bob album) is already starting to go very very slight yellow at the bottom. cannot tell unless you put the wedding ring next to it at the base its a slight difference.

my question in, how often did most people re dip theirs and how long did they have to cope without an engagement ring??

I recently had my engagement ring re-sized and re-dipped at a local jewelers, it cost me £35 and took them 2 days! It looks like brand new, where before mind did go very dull and had a bit of yellow tinge x

it depends on the ring to be honest i have 3 white gold rigns:

1st i had for 9 years and wear it every day its fine never ben re dipped or looks like it does any time soon
2nd i had for 3 years wear everyday and it is going and will need to re dipped soon (it going on the back so not noticable but I can ee it)

3rd is my engagement ring had since July and it also fine

So i think it just depends but most places are around £20 - £30 xx

    Hi KelBel (and everyone else)

White Gold is really just yellow gold with Silver or Palladium mixed in to make it look whiter but its still pale yellow.

This is true of all white gold - where-ever you buy it. However most white gold jewellery in the UK is also plated with Rhodium to make it look even whiter and shinier.

Unfortunately the Rhodium plating does wear off and the pale yellow, white gold starts to show through.

The best white gold has a high palladium content and this stays whiter longer (we use tis type in our 18ct white gold rings) but it still needs occasional 'dipping' or replating with Rhodium.

In our case we think that as wedding rings are for life they should be guaranteed for life and therefore we will 'dip' our white gold rings free of charge for life.

On the high street you can pay anything from £20 - £50 for 'dipping' or even more if you go to a posh shop. So it pays to shop around.

If anyone has any questions about wedding rings we're happy to advise on any aspect - the metals, the stones etc. Just ask the question on this forum and we'll answer as soon as we can

By the way - if you are a UKBride PowerUser you could win £1000 of rings on UKBride this month - sponsored by us! Check it out!
