How much leave do you get a year hun? If your leave renews in Jan then you would be taking the chunk in the first two months. How long can you go without leave after it xx
CommentAuthorElliekitty
I think it depends how much you have to prepare, I am getting married just after new year, so ive got loads of time off at christmas anyway to do things like favours etc. I've only booked off the day before the wedding and then got two weeks off after for the honeymoon x

I was thinking of taking either 2 or 3 days off before depending on how much needs to be collected or how much beautification is needed and then 2 weeks after for my honeymoon. I have 25 days holiday a year but I have bought 3 more as my fittings have to be done on week days and didn't want to get to christmas and realise I had no holiday left.
CommentAuthornatalie2614
My wedding is the weekend after easter so I get the Monday off anyway, so I'll probably work the Tuesday/Wednesday and then have the Thurs off before the wedding on the Friday. We might not get to go on honeymoon straight away so I'll probably end up back in work the Monday, unless h2b is still off work then I'll take a few more days xx

Currently I work Saturday-Monday, and study Monday-Friday.
If I'm still at my current job, I'll just work the Saturday-Monday as usual, as that will give me 4 days (get married on a Saturday). If I worked Monday-Friday I'd prob book the Friday and Monday off and have a long-weekend, then whatever I need for the honeymoon.

I got married on a Sunday and finished work on the Wednesday, which was nice really as the Thursday was just to have fun with visiting relatives and not think about the wedding, and then Fri/Sat was running about collecting things, having my nails done, finalising the table settings etc. We went away the week after so in total I was off for just under 2 weeks (made sure the first work week started on a Tuesday and not a Monday!)

I am getting Married in Dec 13.... so i am pretty much taking the whole month off... as the office will be shut from xmas through to new year... i dont think i will want to go back! but it does leave me very little through the rest of the year! as i am taking time off in Jan 13 as i dont have time to take before as i like a long break over xmas so i am currently thinking of cancelling that time! but reading this at least people are saying 2 days before the wedding... so i think that is all i will do.... Thanks girls advice on all posts are helpful!
CommentAuthornatalie2614
Yeah the concensus is 2 days before the wedding, meaning I would only be in the Tuesday of that week if I went in, Monday is Easter Monday, in work tues, Wed/Thurs off before the wedding on Friday. That would be nice lol xx

Am hoping to finish work on the Wednesday before the wedding on the Saturday then have the weeks after the wedding off then we going on a 3 weeks holiday honeymoon in sept/oct but am self employed (mobile hairdresser) so am bit lucky I take as much or as little time off as i want. I have already been telling my weekly clients that am having 3 weeks off for honeymoon and they are happy which is good as don't want lose any clients so they had 18 months warning on how much time off am having with wedding and honeymoon.

I'm getting married on a Friday, going into work Monday to Wednesday afternoon and then I think I have nearly 4 weeks off. Woohoo, but I work shifts and so can make my holidays extra long as go off at beginning of the week and then go back on Friday to work fri sat and sun if you get me. I work three long days a week. X x
CommentAuthorTori
It is difficult to decide. Nathalie as you can have up to six weeks off you could easily take three weeks and split the rest throughout the year :-)

I'm taking a whole month off work.
20 working days but across 2 bank holidays in May so last day in office will be 3rd May 2013 and I don't go back in until 5th June.
So I have 1 week off before the wedding and 3 and a half weeks off after for the honeymoon and a few days to just chill when we get back.
Can't wait! xx

CommentAuthormym72
I work in a school so when we got married (6th August) I had a couple of weeks off before the wedding and 4 weeks after. My husband works for the NHS so had to request special leave because he was only allowed 2 weeks holiday as it was summer. He broke up the week before the wedding and had 4 weeks off in all (2 weeks paid, 2 weeks unpaid).
We had a lot of travelling to do the week leading up to the wedding so it was good that we were both off. We're from Leeds and had to collect our wedding cake from Blackpool, flowers from Dewsbury, I had to pick up my dress (luckily locally lol) then the day before the wedding we had to drive up to Gretna Green lol.
We went on honeymoon 3 days after the wedding, for one week - then once we were home, we had to finish off planning for our evening reception 4 weeks after the wedding - so the weeks off flew by lol.

i was tied as i work in a school so the usa wedding was during the easter break ... uk wedding was in half term and honey moon was during the summer holidays
I took 19 days......I left on the wednesday...the wedding was saturday, and we went on honeymoon on the tuesday for 2 weeks, so I ended up having almost 3 weeks off work......
I can resist anything but temptation

I am finishing wed before the wedding so 2 days before then the week after so total of 7 days. Then further 10 days for 2 week honeymoon 6 weeks later. Work were not keen on me having more than 2 weeks off work in one go as causes issues to easier to split our honeymoon and go later plus i have something to look forward too xxx

I'm lucky because I work in a school and am getting married in the summer holidays... giving me two weeks off before the wedding and nearly 4 afterwards.
If I didn't have that amount of luck though, I would still book a month off... unpaid if necessary.
CommentAuthorJoannaS
i had the thursday and friday off before the wedding and then we had last week off back to work today
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
Kathleen your school would allow you to book that time off during school time ? i wanna work with you ......i cant go to see mr lala in jamacia next feb half term as the flight back lands to late for me to get to work on the monday !!
Im hoping for 3/4 weeks, which (providing Im working by then, which i bloody well should be) I'm planning on taking it half paid, or all unpaid, so im not having to use up all my hols in one go. The boy will be able to take all that time paid as he works funny shifts, so can seem to have weeks off and only actually use 8 holidays to get a whole bleeding month off 4 days to get 3 weeks, so we'd only be losing my wage so we're ok with that
And ive told him i want a job at his place, haha!

I'm scared to ask my workplace. I'm starting a new job next Tuesday, and is initially a maternity cover. I'm getting married in September, so the other lady will not be back to cover. I did mention in the interview i was getting married then, but not sure how they will react to me looking for what i want - 3 weeks (week before the wedding and two weeks after).
CommentAuthornatalie2614
If you mentioned it in the interview then they cant really kick off? They ask if you have any holidays booked when you start a new job, just give in the three weeks, most employers honour previously booked holidays, especially for something as big as a wedding x

If you go for a job and they ask you about any pre arranged holidays, they have to honour them as you've arranged them before starting working for them. When I got my present job in April, we'd already booked a week in Lanzarote - and it turned out to be the start date for the job. I explained to them at the interview and arranged to start the day after I got back.
CommentAuthorMrsShields2B
thanks guys - hopefully it won't be a problem - especially if i make sure i invite the boss!!!! :-)
