recently went to a wedding fare and fell in love with a photographer!!

my partner and i have decideded we dont want the wedding filmed, as personally we both hate hearing ourselves on camera, and would feel quite nerved by the whole camera say something in your face all day!!

personally it also a tradition i dont like, and see it as a waste of money

anyway the photographer i love her price is £1600! (more than my dress!!)

    her package includes -
    - 2 photographers for the day - a must for me!
    - A memory stick with ALL shots taken on the day, edited & ready for printing
    - A creative photo story book
    - Photo booth style photos of your guests
    - 99 Personalised "Thank you" cards for you to give to your guests

they only do one packagae, so cheaper options are available.

what is everyone's views on this?

In my opinion photographer is one of the most important parts of the wedding, and the price may sound alot but considering for what you are getting the price is sort of 'reasonable'
Our photographer is sort of similar pricing but we only have the 1, plus a pre wedding shoot, unlimited photos, photo story book or album - yet to decide - 150 digitally editted photos onto a keepsake cd, screening at her studio of the photos, access online for guests if we want, plus a couple of other things and paid a bit more for her to stay on for a few hrs into the evening...

Some people have had really good bargains with their photographer, and got really amazing deals for really good quality photographers but unfortunately we didnt have anything like that around us!! If you find the photographer you are comfortable enough with to be around all day and get along then thats the most important part!!
We aren't having transport and will cut back on other things in order to keep in budget but we prefered paying a bit more than we originally would of liked because the standard, quality and the fact we got on with her from straight off sold it to us!

Like you we arent sure about filming and i am very camera shy and dont like being centre of attention (yes i know wedding, bride, two go hand in hand) but she is aware of that and accommodates around that!!

There are people on here who have got it for much less and tbh much more but each to their own and if you feel its manageable then go for it! xx

our package should have been £1,995 but i got him down to £1,500 - so in answer to your question, no i don't think that it is overpriced! Along with your venue, your photographer is normally one of the most costly expenses for your wedding! My budget for my dress is less than the budget for the photographer was!!

lulu88 - we did get along with photograpahers right away and what i espically liked was they mentioned when they take the bride n groom away for photos they get all the couple shots down within an hour so that we can get back n enjoy our wedding with our guests!

thank you for such a big comment!!!.... ur advice has really helped!!

goldiepostie - wow your lucky to have got yours down to a smaller price! to be honest i never thought the photographer would be so high up on the list of expensive items for the wedding, all i was thinking about was we must get a photographer.

thanks so much girls!!! its nice to see what others are paying, so that i can put what im paying to consideration!!

Im only paying £500 for the whole package from getting ready to first dance..but we arent skimping on the quality. It is right that photos are the most important thing as after the day its all you will have apart from memories..but I'd never pay over £1000. My recent graduated photography college friend told me that they only charge them extortinate rates as they know brides will pay it thinking there must be a 'quality' reason for the price being so high... aslong as you look at a photographers portofilios and they show you pictures from a whole wedding day.. and more than 1 wedding day..you can see how consistant they are..There are alot of good quality photographers out there that dont charge 1000's... xxxxx

Mrswearn2be - hey hun! yeah i totally understand where your coming from, as soon as you mention wedding £££'s get added! i have seen several photographers books and felt that many where stuck in with the older traditions of being too posey etc...
or didnt quite get my view of photography that i wanted.

personally i am happy to pay the price as i feel that with 2 photographers u will always pay more as there are double wages that need paying.

most photographers only photo the bride getting ready, but a wedding invloves 2 people, i wanted photos of my partner getting ready aswell...

I think for what youre getting in your package its a very reasonable price. Photography isnt somewhere that we brides should scrimp on as thats the lasting memory of the day!

I looked at photographers ranging from £300 to £1300, all had their own style and packages avaialable. In the end my photographer is costing £395, but thats with a winter discount of 20%, and thats just images edited on a disc with copyright. Which is what i wanted.

I have the option of getting a story book afterwards, and I loved what he showed us so I will most definitly be getting one after the wedding! x

Like above ^ I've only opted for a digital package..with just the disc with copyrights..so I can buy an album at a later date... Its worth shopping around with more photographers if ur not 100% sure about the price...depends if you know you want nothing other than this...but £1600 wouldnt even be considered by us lol xxx

My answer to this type of question is always 'more than you can afford'; if you can afford to spend £1600, it isn't too much.

In our case, we originally budgeted £1200; we quickly realised this wouldn't get us what we wanted, so are now looking to spend £2000-2500, which includes a pre-wedding shoot, a signing frame, 2 photographers with unlimited coverage, all the images on the disc, and a post-wedding 'rock the frock'/fashion shoot. Albums are an additional £350-500.

For us it's worth it, as this photographer is amazing :-)

Oh don't get me wrong, i know the word wedding ups the price straight away! and i wish we could of found what we have at a lower price but as i said before we arent having certain things and this is one thing i dont want to scrimp on!
If you are lucky and find a more reasonable priced photographer then thats fab!! And im quite jealous haha, but at the end of the day each to their own and as long as you're comfortable then thats all that matters! xx

lula: I personally think this is one case where the word wedding doesn't necessarily up the prices straight away.

We could have got a photographer for much less than we are prepared to pay quite easily: I found plenty in the £500-1000 price range. But, we just didn't like their style (and believe me, I have looked at over 100 and not limited myself), and found a few issues with their work. So, we looked at the difference and have decided to splurge. They will last a life-time, so for us it's worth it. We also like arty styles, and they will suit our venue, and unfortunately the photographers who excel at this sort of style don't come cheap (had we wanted something more traditional we could have found a decent photographer for a lot less).

Point being it's very personal; and what is too much is relative. For us, it isn't too much; our wedding is costing £20k excluding the honeymoon, so £2.5k on photography is not excessive. I can understand that not everyone can afford to spend what we are, but object to the idea we're spending 'too much'.

Our deal is very similar for £200 less (i dont get the cards) and i thought that was a good deal so yours sounds good too. I personally think spend as much as you can on the photographer as pictures last forever but everyone has different limits and budgets so do whats right for you both xxx

I think that photos are really important - if not the most important thing to get right. If you end up with terrible ones it would be awful! With that in mind, if your budget allows for this lady and she comes highly recommended i'd go for it if she delivers what you need. xxxx

I think it all boils down to personal choice and priorities as well as budget. If you feel that you are getting a good deal that is all that matters. When I started looking for photographers I expected them to charge much less than they do but I guess good photographers can be expensive!

We're spending about four hundred quid on ours, a disc only package up to the start of the wedding breakfast. That said, she is very good and we don't feel like we're compromising on quality.

Whilst I agree that it is an important part if the day, we are on a smallish budget and i personally would rather spend money on something that makes the day better. After all, surely the memories are the most important thing? Besides marrying your h2b, of course! Getting a dearer photog would have meant compromising on food or entertainment, and to us, they are our top priority.

I agree with tori, it's all down to your personal choice. Tbh, I think it sounds a good deal for all you're getting and if you can stretch to it without sacrificing other things you really want, then go for it! You obviously felt that they were people you can work with and that's worth it's weight in gold!

hiya girls!!! all your comments have really helped me!!....
    Thank you :)

After trailing through more photographers last night i still keep coming back to first company i fell in love with.
after all the photos are ment to last a lifetime.

we are lucky enough that we dont need wedding cars, and that the MIL and FIL are paying for the venue, and wedding breakfast which is a big chunk paid off. so for us this would be the biggest thing we have to pay for.

    thanks again girls :)
