We have been trying to save for years, but with one thing or another, we just havent had a spare penny to save. It is so frustrating. We know what venue we want, how much we would like to spend, and to be honest it isnt even a lot wedding budget wise, even what place settings we want. How on earth do you find the money to put away for deposits?! We know there is a lot we can do ourselves, from making invites and place settings, to flower arrangements, but even thats a push at the moment! I think I am starting to get frustrated because we have been engaged such a long time. I love my man more than anything and I would love to let the world know he is officially mine :)

Great idea ^^^^ Also have you thought of getting a second job. That's what I'm planning to do to pay for all the extras like gifts, bridesmaid dresses, h2b ring, etc.

i have just got a new job to pay for the basics, but because of my partners work hours and having kids i cant physically work any more hours. Once we get the money fo the deposit it wont be so bad. It is just getting he money for the deposit, thats the hard bit :( I have just been given nearly 3 more hours a day at work which i am hoping will help, but like i said i cant work more than that because of childcare. I have managed to get bridesmaids dresses and a few other things so far, but it is paying for the big things that we are struggling with, mainly the venue and thats the one thing that my fiance wont budge on lol

I'm not sure of the logistics of it but have you thought of watching other children in your home to make some money on the side. It's sounds like it'll take some creativity on your part but I'm sure you'll find a way to save extra money.

I know exactly how you feel hun! We are in the same boat! We had planned to have at least £2000 saved up by now and we dont even have £500! Me and my h2b are both students and will be up until 2 months before the wedding. I have tried to find a job and have been looking for nearly a year now but no one will hire me. I get through to interviews and am then told they need someone available at all times for cover (this is even on 8 hour contracts!) and as I have committments with uni I never get the job. Either that or there are people younger than me going for the same weekend type jobs and they get them as they can pay them less than me! It's really stressing me out as I have no idea how we are going to pay for the wedding at this rate! We are barely getting by as it is and have no where to cut any more costs. I'm just praying that something comes up soon to help us out! A win on the lottery wouldn't go a miss! lol xxx

We both set up standing orders Into a savings account that go out as soon as we get paid. We were the same, meaning to save but never quite managed it.

We just learnt to live off what we had left...and we're quite surprised that we've actually managed it!!

I agree that a standing order between your accounts is a great way to save, that's what we've been doing. We've also just taken a long look at where we were wasting money on things, like always buying films and books that we want when we have a house full that at least one of us hasn't read or watched. We piled up all the films by the bed side table and allowed to buy any new ones till they are watched! GOing to start on the books next. Also, making our own lunches not buying! You've got to look at your finances and make a proper budget.good luck! X

I kniow how you feel honestly. All the small things are getting paid off pretty easily but the bifg stuff like venue we are struggling with
What we did for deposits though was we asked for money for xmas & bdays instead of gifts. H2B and I do not buy for each other to save money
You will be surprised how it adds up
Also if we fancy a takeaway, I make it at home & we put £20 in the pot towards the wedding
    It all adds up

I have recently just started avon too so that should help with the commission
    Good luck

This may sound ridiculous but it's helped us loads and in only 2 months. My soon to be mother in law bought a money box from Hallmark, it doesn't have a plug (so no dipping in) the only way to get to the cash is smash it and you only put £2 coins in. Once it is full it has £1000 in it. We haven't started saving properly but everytime one of us has a £2 coin in it goes and in just two months it is nearly half full. You can get them on Amazon I think for around £10

    Good luck xxx

We also do the standing order to a separate savings account. Mum holds the card for that and we don't have access to it online. It works great as mum is strict so unless we show her an invoice for wedding things we aren't allowed to access it! We thought we couldn't save the 300 a month, but like others have said, u learn to live on what u have. We've also sorted doing a fortnightly meal plan and shop online for that so u dint spend any extra than u need too. Have a scout around the house for things u can sell too. We got 50 quid for dv ds and cds that were sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Not much but it paid for our deposit for entertainment.. x

Don't be afraid to bargain down when you are viewing reception venues that's what I did. Look at my photo album, I got my reception venue for £900 because I asked if it was possible to have just the venue and the buffet. No waiting staff obviously but I used to work in a hotel near it so I'm planning on asking the hotel owners if I can borrow 2 of their staff for the evening. I will pay them the same amount that they would get at the hotel. I have managed to knock off almost £4000 off my spending.

I am able to do this because my ceremony is in England and is small with about 16 people attending then the 100 guest reception is one week later so I was able to cut out the massively over priced sit down meal anyway.

Before I had booked my reception venue I was still thinking of having a sit down meal. I priced outside catering companies and they were quoting me prices that were way lower than that of the venues prices so my advice if you are keeping the meal, don't be afraid to make a few enquiries to outside catering companies, and if you find they are cheaper then ask your venue if they will allow you to bring in a company instead. Ok some venues may have a problem with that, but some venues won't and if you don't ask you don't get as the saying goes.
By the way I highly recommend having a small ceremony as its a brilliant excuse to cut out the most expensive part of the day out. Me and my fiancé only have to pay for 16 meals which will be main course and desert only and not 100 4 or 5 courses.

Yeah I am applying for second jobs atm - waitressing / retail / even a party host for a certain company! These types of jobs should fit round my current work commitments.

If not, could try selling things you don't like / use ? I know a lot of people do this because they hoard stuff! Or diy? There's LOADS of tutorials online for certain things.

Don't worry, we're in the same boat too, we've paid the deposits for the big things but only as my mum & dad helped, we were meant to start saving last September but things kept coming up & then h2b was made redundant in October, we had to move to my mums as we couldn't afford the rent on just my wages, I had to give up my job as the travel would of been too much. So now we're both looking for work, with absolutely nothing saved! It's stressing me out but once we do get sorted with jobs, we'll just have to save like mad! xx

Urgh I know the feeling I've had to quit my job over childcare issues and he does stupid hours as well so trying to work round him is impossible as he's 4 days on/4 days off which are day and night shifts. So at the moment he's having to power the overtime. I just feel useless because I'm not earning. I'm trying to sell some art there's not much money in it, but it's better than nowt.

We kept pushing our date back, but we just decided that if we keep doing that it won't happen, so now we've booked it and we have no choice but to knuckle down and save now.

    Good luck!

We both work full time but its still a nightmare trying to work wedding saving round paying bills etc. had a reality check the other day when we realised we aren't even 1/5 of the way there yet... So we are cutting back on our spending and I'm splitting my monthly wage between wedding and bills, leaving myself the smallest amount of spending money for things such as birthdays and unexpected car trouble (of which I have a lot) x

I'm making invites too. Also collecting glass jars to fill with pebbles and artificial flickering tea lights. H2b has come up with the idea of buying little bits as and when out of our 'spare' money too.

Hopefully the car will behave so we can make a good start to our savings in the next few months. It should do... Only just cost us a fortune for tyres and brakes haha x

That's what we're trying to do, any little bits that we can afford will just come out of general spending rather than the actuall budget.

Saving all your jars is a good idea as well, that's what I'm doing so I can make a sweet buffet rather than hiring one in
