    Hello

Just wondered if anyone knew the answer to my question. I was at my church yesterday and was chatting to the Verger about various things. She said 'Oh Ill see you when the Banns are read then?' This started me thinking... The church we are getting married in is not my local church (its where grandparents/parents got married and about 30 miles away from where I live). I do not attend my local church but go to services at the one we are marrying in occasionally, so where do my Banns get read? Also, my OH is Irish (and Catholic). We know we need a dispensation, but where do his Banns get read? I don't want to ask the vicar as it seems a really stupid question!! x x

As far as I know, your Banns will need to get read at both churches, your local and the one where you are getting marries. Don't know about your OH banns though, sorry

I'm currently sorting this out myself. We have away banns read at our local church - I picked up my form yesterday and will need to return it with a payment of £35. They will then read them up to 3 months before the wedding. We also need to have banns read at the church where we are getting married, luckily we got this bit sorted about 5 months ago. Hope this helps.

You need to go and speak to your parish church hun as they also have to read your banns and provide the church you are marrying at with a certificate saying they have been read. As Jillian said this costs about £35 to do. If you and your h2b live in the same parish you will only need the two set of banns read, but if you live apart and he is in another parish you will need them to be done there too. Catholic churches dont read Banns so you have no need to worry about having it done at the Catholic church xxx

Just a quick question to add... How soon do you need to contact your local parish for the banns to be read? (we've spoken to the vicar of the church we are getting married in, but won't see her again until 6 months prior to the wedding so i don't want to leave it too late)

I would do it as soon as you can hun. It needs to go into their diaries to be read out on certain days from 3 months before the wedding. If you do it now it will be one less thing to worry about nearer the time :) xxx

the one you are getting married in and your local parish

you are supposed to attend when your banns are read especially in your local parish as you will need the certificate to prove that they have been read so its a good time to pick it up
