I love my engagement ring so much and it looks so fragile I'm scared to ruin it. I take it off before I shower or wash up or wash my hands as worried if I get it wet might ruin it. Am I bring silly? Does it matter if it gets wet and that? X

I only take mine off for work and that's only because I have to. Mine has lots of small stones in to, but that's my choice I know people who take it off before having a shower x x

Mine is one large stone (pic in album) but its very secure in the holding. Any other stoned rings in the past I have taken off.

I only have to take my off at work, due to the nature of my job, but it should be fine when using it to wash up, i usually do when i have the time off work, and i have had mine for 5 years now.

I can't agree enough with CamillaB

I never wear mine in the shower or while washing up, I take it off to wash my hands as well. I think it's just common sense if you want it to stay as nice as possible for as long as possible. Because it will get grimy, it will need cleaning and if it's white gold it will need redipping eventually. But if you look after it you don't have to worry about those things nearly as often.

I always take mine off - unless i'm washing up at work because i'm paranoid it'll get lost. By removing it you are making it stay shinny longer! x

I take mine off when I cook, clean out the rabbit hutches, the cat litter trays, wash up, shower or do mucky things. I have lots of reasons, I lost a stone from my original ring that I was less careful with and it couldn't be reset as it was a chessboard cut which isn't fixable so that's one of my reasons.
Another is the fact that I'm a germaphobe so never wear my ring when I'm cooking or cleaning so that it doesn't get germs on it.
I just don't want to risk damaging something that is so precious to me. But that's just my choice xx

I don't think you are being silly at all. I take mine off too for housework, washing up, shower etc. It was very expensive and I'm terrified of loosing it or loosening the stone. I want it to stay nice for as long as possible :) xx

I always take mine off when I shower and when I wash up. I also always take it off when I go to bed.

But it all depends on you and how you feel. If you are that worried you can always take to a jeweller and get it looked at.

I think it's natural to be worried about your engagement ring.

I recently inherited my grandmas engagement ring which is nearly 70 years old, when I took it to be resized the jeweller told me I'd need a new post for the stones to sit in as the ORIGINAL was starting to fall apart.

My grandma never took her rings off so it goes to show that these rings are made to last! Xx

I was worried about mine in the beginning but I soon got bored of being careful. How awful is that! I know silver jewellery recommends you shower with it on to prevent tarnishing. I haven't damaged mine doing all sorts with it but you're not being sill at all. It is very natural to feel the way you are

Don't feel so silly now I know I'm not the only one. I wear it to bed as hate not having it on coz feels weird not wearing it lol. I think coz it was expensive I don't want to lose the stone. The company my h2b got it from will do free cleaning for life but its the posting it to the, that scares me x

I always take mine off out of habit whenever I'm home, washing up, applying hand cream, etc because I'm so used to taking off previous rings that were pre-engagement rings, it's taking some time getting used to keeping it on!

Emma-louise, You are being very wise by taking care of your ring in that way. If you want the ring to last a lifetime its best to take as many precautions as possible.
Getting it wet won't harm it but when you're in the shower you could knock your hand against a hard surface and damage the ring or even dislodge one of the stonres - which would then go straight down the plug hole!
