    Hello all

I am thinking of hiring a photographer who will provide all images on disc, rather than printed to save money is anyone else doing the same or do you know of a inexpensive way of getting good images.

    Thanks x

My sister and BIL did it this way, they had the photographer all day from preparations to first dance, all images on disc for £500 but I think it was slightly cheaper because they had a Thursday wedding.

My sister then chose all the best shots and got the album printed with good ol v!st@pr!nt.

Do they do a joint package? Definitely worth asking.
My photographer does a package where if you buy an album (from £325 upwards) then you can have the disc with all the images on for£100.
If you buy the album from the photographer then you do tend to get better quality photographs.

Most photographers I'm looking at do a disc only option, there are definitely reasonable options. I'm planning on just getting a disc, I don't like modern storybook style albums, and with the images on disc I can do whatever I want with them at a later date. I can thouroughly recommend the new UKBride Quote service, you can write exactly what you want and what you want to spend and people get back to you, I got half a dozen viable quotes from that. Other option is to do what I'm doing at the moment as well, the long winded "google photographers in your area and do a spreadsheet on cost and suitability" Really boring, but I've definitely found some good photographers to put on the shortlist!

I'm having a story book and the disk as I really like the story book but all the photographers that I looked at did just the disk only option for cheaper x x

I think most photographers offer it these days and if they don't they're probably a bit old fashioned. My sister in law and the sister of my BM had photos only and then used the site ph0t0b0x to have albums made. I've seen them and they look really good so i think we'll be doing this too. Plus - when you sign up to that website they constantly email you with offers so it's quite reasonably priced if you order at the right moment. xx

The photographer we like is £2500 and that doesn't include an album; albums are £500 extra and we just can't stretch to that. However, they keep your images on file, and you can order an album up to 2 years after the wedding; so, we plan to get one for our first anniversary to help spread the cost.

Having the photographer we want, and all the images on a disc, and having full rights, is way more important to us that having an album straight away, as an album can always be bought later.

Paula it is the BEST way......because that way you get the professional pictures, instead of getting albums from him at his inflated prices.. . at least you will have quality over quantity. And then later you can get your album when you can afford to. Either do it yourself or get someone to design one for you.

But PLEASE....whatever you do, when you get your disc , dont go to some cheapo place to get prints, or you might as well have a friend take the pictures, the quality just isnt there. and it wont do your photos justice to have them printed just anywhere,

I've had mine given to me on a disc and she also ad a couple printed off by the company starting with J. They looked fab so have ordered some more myself, and as you sign up first you get 40 prints free. Ended up costing me £5 for over 40 prints plus two enlarged ones.

PS, we'd only thought this was what we were going to do as we have a couple of people we know that have (as mentioned in my earlier post). Now that i've read so many people agreeing i think it's now a definite for us! x

Hi Anne, what are the best sorts of places to take them to get printed?

I wouldn't want them to look poor quality after paying for a professional photographer...I must admit it hadn't really crossed my mind before xx

    ProAm are really great......yes they are a little bit more expensive......something like 50p for a 10 x 8 I think.

Also Photobox is pretty good too...

The one's I would avoid is Boots and Tescos as their colours are not true, but I have actually printed some at Asda and at Jessops, and they were pretty good. The colours look good and the finish is nicer, its a satin finish instead of gloss.
The one above....ProAm, ARE the best, its a professional printers. But the other 2 come in at a close second if you dont want to use them.

Thanks Anne, you've probably saved me money and disappointment as I would have no doubt ended up paying to do them twice!

I find SnappySnaps are also quite good, and they have a range of finishes, but again, they're dearer than Boots etc.

I only use Boots for holiday snaps; had a few professional shoots done and would never use them for those because as RaggedyAnne said the colours aren't true. Also find their equipment rubbish if you print them in-store.

I havent tried snappy snaps.....there isnt a local one to me or I would have tried them. a few years ago, i took some photos of my dogs, and took 3 photos to a few places to get printed to get a comparison. boots were pretty bad. and another one......its online called **************** they were terrible, they had a green cast on all the photos, and the paper is wafer thin, almost transparent.

When I used to shoot weddings, and gave the disc, it pained me to see people getting copies done at really cheap and nasty places, because it didnt give them a true representation of their day......and also, it didnt give a true representation of my work.

And I always think this way, after the dress has been put away, the cake has been eaten and the flowers have died......what have you got left? weddings cost plenty of money, and your photographs are the only thing left to remind you of everything you spent the money on. they are the only thing to bring back the days memories. so make them good memories.

One place I would advise NOT to go is Tru print as my friend got a load of photos printed from them of my hen do, they came back all blurred and not in focus. As they all seemed fine on the camera she then went elsewhere to just get a couple of them printed off to see if it was the camera or the company and they came out lovely. She complained to them but they insisted the camera was not in focus.
