Me and Chris really can't agree on colours!

We are getting married easter weekend in a gorgeous walled garden, hence I want really soft colours like peaches, corals and pinks.

However he wants either red or cadbury purple. Both the colours are lovely, but not for a spring/easter/garden wedding!

When I say to him it doesnt suit the time of year he just laughs!

I dont want to say 'its my wedding so I will choose' as I want him to like the colour! However I'm thinking of the bigger picture like flowers etc whereas he just sees it as a colour.

    Help?

We started with one main colour - champagne with ivory. This evolved to include gold, black and coffee.

Could you not both pick a colour to represent your choices and do a range of colours?

I originally wanted deep purple as love that colour then my h2b told me he wants to wear a kilt! (Big shock lol) so because the colour I thought nay blue would suit it. And more I looked into more I love the colour. I didn't want burgundy or pink as seen loads weddings that colour so wanted something slightly different. So navy blue and having dusky pink flowers as they go together well. Have look on g00gle at few wedding in those colours and then show h2b and see why he doesn't like ur colours and then compromise x

We're getting married in April too but have gone for purple anyway. It was a no brainer for us as it's my favourite colour and Nathan didn't have a preference. I agree that there are certain colours that go better for different times of the year but i wouldn't discount a colour that you like because of that :-) x

I'm thinking coral as it is a compromise between red and peach/pink!

However b'maids dresses seen hard to track down in this colour?

I thought colours would be easy but is proving to be the hardest thing!

I'm not sure what colours we're having yet; going to wait until the BMs have chosen their dresses and then decide. I think atm they're thinking blue for their dresses, so I'm thinking pink flowers (which would complement our venue). I also like white/ivory/cream, but think I'd prefer some colour.

it is really good to stick with seasonal colours but its also good that he is wanting to have some input maybe the best thing to do is look at swatches together and have a compromise like me n my H2B i got my colours so he got his venue and a LED dance floor xxx

We started with champagne and ivory, but when we were looking into it we decided that it would be a bit dull for a summer wedding in August so added in coral aswell to make it a bit more summery. Personally, I see coral as a summer colour and a lot of brides getting married abroad tend to go for this colour. For a spring wedding I think of more pastel colours. So could you maybe go for a lilac? It's not quite cadburys purple but it is still a shade of purple? and you can always add in a second colour like peach or lemon if you wanted to? xxx

I wanted pink, however I knew my partner, bridesmaids or family didn't want pink. So, I looked for bridesmaid dresses I liked and fell in love with some navy blue ones. So that was our main colour, then I choose my flowers, which were mainly pink lilies, so that was our second colour; pink!

I spent ages looking at colours before deciding on mine. I looked online but couldn't find anything we could both agree on. But by going from the bridesmaid dresses it made it much easier. (My dresses were from a rather large department store that John owns, so I was limited to the colours available).

It's tricky as I totally agree with you. He is wrong! Lol! Why don't you put some images together of what you have in mind and what it will look like and then show him those? Maybe when he sees it he will agree.

Also - to what extent does he want to actually be involved in the planning? My H2b knows nothing about weddings because he is not interested and so is still in the land of the 80s wedding his mom had! Hence when asked about wedding stuff he just went for really standard wedding stuff - luckily he was well aware that he didn't really care about it so it was better that i just picked stuff and we came to an agreement that unless he absolutely hated something , if he didn't really have an opinion on something i just got to choose it.

Hope you get it sorted soon.x

Im getting married in April and we have gone for a really deep purple but off-set it with a dusky pink.
Choose what colours you like, i would think more of what colours suit your BM's and H2B than the time of year as they are likely to be wearing the colour.

Katie just pick it all yourself, if he's like most other men he won't end up being that interested when it comes down to all the fine detail and the faffy little bits. He'll have no idea about flowers etc. Just organise it and when it looks amazing he'll totally forget he wanted anything else. x

If you want cadburys purple, and your h2b is moaning about it not being a spring colour, honestly just do what I did and add lilac to the mix. I've got a lovely teardrop bouquet with cadburys purple, lilac and Ivory roses. my MOH is wearing cadburys purple, but her flowers will look lovely against her dress as theres a mixture of shades of purple.. you really have got to have the colours you love and like lizzylou just said.....your h2b wont have anyidea about the flowers, so just go with it! lol xxx

I think you can make any colour scheme seasonally really.... we are having Red which tends to be a winter colour and we are getting married in August but im having it really delicate with lace and cream so more feminie and pretty. The flowers will be red roses and gerberas so seasonal.

Orginally i always wanted pink but H2B said No way and he refused to wear pink or have any pink there so you need to chat, show each other your ideas and comprimise.... you could have purple with soft lilac so best of both worlds.

I disagree with all the other brides saying he wont know or care.... not all men are like that and it is his wedding too so surely both opinions count !!!

Wow thanks for all your help!

Its not so much the time of year, its more that its easter weekend so I think of pastels and soft colours. And they are the kind of colours that suits our venue, it is a garden with a marquee with lovely flowers etc.

I just have an image of soft frabics and colours when i think about it, I just dont know what colour!

Does it also depend on your dress do you think? Maybe when I have mine I will be able to tell a bit more what is going to suit.

If I try and talk to him about it he just says 'do what you want' which isnt really the anser either!

    Hmm.

We are having a range of colours. Navy blue as it will be his uniform. Purples and pinks. My dress is ivory.

I think a few mood boards would be good. Do you have a photo of the venue? You could then try colours and a mood board around it. Maybe go get a few d@lux paint colour strips so you can look at different colours and see what works with what. You may find a less deep tone of the Cadbury purple works well with the pastels.

    Good luck.

Colours arrrrrggggghhhhh don't get me started before we postponed I went through every colour under the sun haha initially I said I wanted metallics, then I wanted colours as I do love colour then made the mistake of asking bridesmaids!! well one can't wear pink because shes so pale but if i choose it she would live with it, then no orange, then yellows as the venue has yellow chair covers, in the end I think I was stressing myself out so we cancelled haha.. not just over colours though don't panic!!
    ;p
I would say choose more then one colour, but be open minded some colours that you don't expect work really well together if he wants red add in a more seasonal colour like buttermilk and a blush pink, or if cadbury purple add in some pale blues and peaches.
I have seen coral coloured dresses somewhere, I think on bay of e or a discount dress outlet online... hmm.. coral works well with gold :)
Best of luck choosing and don't think too much!! hug xx

I knew I wanted purple as our colour and at the start I purchased lots of purple for the tables. Then we had to decide what the men would wear as really did not want them wearing purple. At first we were looking at a silver/grey colour, but then I came across purple and green, and I loved it. Showed hubby and he liked it as well so that was our colour scheme. Purple and green. I brought the green into my outfit and kept the bridesmaids as purple.

We had royal blue - as I don't like pastel colours really. We got married in August and also thought about what colours would attract wasps/bees/insects as well (don't like them either lol).

Royal blue seems to suit any time of year, and doesn't attract 'wildlife' either. We're also Leeds Utd fans so definitely wouldn't have had red either lol. The only thing that differed was my bm's dress - as it was midnight blue, but suited her perfectly as she is a plus size and was really slimming as well. When the light caught it, it did look lighter though.

My sister and BIL got married in April last year and had deep red/claret and gold. H2B and I are getting married in May and having the exact same colour scheme. Some might say they're winter colours but we don't care. I'm Chinese so I'm having traditional Chinese colours for our wedding and we're both really happy with it. A family friend got married in July and also had this colour scheme.

I'm having a pinky lilac because my dress is white and pinky/ lilac.
Are you having a white/ivory dress or a coloured one?
If you're wanting some colour to it, then I would say find your perfect dress first and then work around it.
Also, if you want to co ordinate with the gardens, do you know what flowers/plants are in bloom there at that time of year, and what colour they are? See if the venue has photos from that time of year.

I am so indecisive, and my favourite colours......well there are 4 I love and couldnt choose between them ....
I had 4 bridesmaids so thought why not have them all? so I did. Dusky Pink, Yellow, Lilac and Purple. they carried ivory roses, and I carried a brooch bouquet which had brooches of all the 4 colours.....the rest of the wedding, the decorations etc, was mainly to match my dress, gold..( I even had a gold cake) ...with hints of the 4 colours here and there. so really I had quite a few colours going on........the 4 bridesmaid colours......gold & ivory, with ivy leaves. but as long as its consistent, I think it can work.

mym72.......my mum did too.....and funnily enough, that wasnt the reason that I did it, because I had forgotten about that at the time.....then when I saw a picture I thought yeah...great minds think alike. she had 6 bridemaids, 2 in blue, 2 in pink and 2 in yellow....(or was it white? ) cant quite remember. its actually not a new thing like a lot of people believe.....my mum got married post war....1946 and money was tight, so they sourced what they could and put it together.

This is a family friends wedding.....again the same thing with the different coloured bridesmaids dresses.

we changed our minds so many times and in the end it just dawned on me to go ivory and white so it was very elegant. Problem was I hard ordered my bm dresses in red but luckily I just got the grooms men to match and this worked out better having everything white bar them because the room looked elegant but the bm and grooms men had colour for the photies. Therefore, the main issue I was worried about (there being the red) actually saved the day and it all looked stunning.

RaggedyAnne - I think it looks good - and if I'd have had more than one bm I'd have probably been tempted to do it. When my parents did it, it was 1967 and the bm's were my older cousins. They got the dresses made shorter length so that they could wear them again afterwards - great idea as they were 7, 9 and 11 at the time.

I love your idea raggedyanne wasn't sure until I saw your pics just after your wedding (the one where your BMs are outside in a row) and loved the idea. Can't get h2b and mum in in the idea (I thought of pic each colour from kilt) but maybe because they haven't seen it x
