We had our wedding booked for Cyprus in April 2014, we had ceremony, reception, photographer and videographer booked. We'd been looking at accommodation and were eagerly waiting for the flights to be released to book those. We knew some of our family would find it difficult to come with us so we'd said we would pay for all accommodation to ensure that our immediate family was with us on our special day. Now MIL2B & SIL2B have said they're too scared to fly and wont come, they say they'd tried to put a brave face on it and do what was best for H2B but they can't face it and that he has to do what he wants but they won't be there.

At first H2B was adamant that we shouldn't change things but to be fair he's the only one out of his family that is ever likely to get married and I think that morally its important for his mum to be there. She won't see any of her other children get married and I don't want him to miss out on having his mum there.

So after spending a couple of months debating we finally decided last night that we are going to get married in the UK to ensure that his family will be there. I am gutted we aren't going where we want to but to make up for it we've decided to go to Thailand for our honeymoon and have found a top class hotel that we'll probably stay at.

So today I'll be cancelling everything in Cyprus, I'm not going to look at booking anything for the UK until after Xmas though. Think we'll have a couple of months wedding free and start again in the new year

Ah honey sorry to hear that. We Orginally wanted to get married abroad too but both my grandparents and h2b dad is too old/fragile to fly and we had to decide whether the location or people were more important for our wedding day.... So we are getting married in uk now and happy with it. I think having an amazing honeymoon will help xxx

Awww hun that is really quite sad to read. I do think that even though you had your hearts set on having your wedding abroad you have done the right thing in the long run in many ways. He will have his family there, you get to have a fantastic honeymoon (and it really does sound as though it will be). In the future you could possibly still have a blessing in Cyprus if you still felt a need to.

A break from the planning is a good thing too, especially over xmas as you can start fresh with renewed vigour. :o)

Aww sorry to hear that. I too was looking at getting married abroad but had to change (my oh got notice of redundancy). But on the other hand we are having a mini break in Wales and getting married there, so it is kind of a destination wedding.

Thanks ladies, I do feel we've done the right thing for family harmony and I think although he doesn't feel it now that he would've regretted not having his mum there.

Dragging him to the wedding fair in manchester on Saturday (first time we've gone to one together) so that should give us a few things to think about then I'm definitely going to leave things alone (not even book anywhere) until after xmas. Have a break and look at things with fresh eyes

I hope that the wedding fair gets you back into the wedding spirit. I know that your decision must have been very hard, but when you have a perfect day in the UK it'll make up for it.

Sorry to hear you have had to cancel all your plans when you had done so much. I hope you don't lose too much money on it. They should be eternally grateful now for that.

That was a big sacrifice for you to make, but I understand why you have done it. A honeymoon in Thailand will go some way to making up for it!
