We've got 200 gift list inserts from a company we saw at the NEC and I'm just curious, do these go into just the day guests? Or should I put them in with the night guests too??

    I'm not sure :S

Oooh, that's a very good question. I would like to know that.

In relation to the vouchers, if you are happy to buy things using their vouchers, then vouchers are perfect for you. I would be happy to accept vouchers...if my OH would allow it.

Well you can specify where you want vouchers for or you can have a 'money pot' and then choose which you want vouchers for.. I'm torn between doing this one or going with a popular department store...debs ;)

It is with regret that I find myself having to write this email of complaint to you, but I am currently very angry with the service, or lack thereof, that I have received over the past few days from John Lewis Gift List. In order to make full sense of this complaint, let me start with a timeline of events:

    Friday 4 November
9.20am – I receive a ‘courtesy call’ from John Lewis Gift List (message was left as I was unable to take the call) explaining that 3 items hadn’t arrived in so tomorrow’s delivery (between 11am and 5pm) would come without those.

    Saturday 5 November
11am – I receive another ‘courtesy call’ from a different person, explaining that 2 boxes hadn’t arrived so they would be sent on a different date. I asked her if they were the three items I was contacted about yesterday and she said that she wasn’t able to say, despite me telling her what these three items were. I asked her what would happen with these 2 boxes and she replied saying I’d get a call when they had come in to arrange a suitable delivery time. Slightly annoying, but again, this is fine.

4.55pm – I call John Lewis Gift List customer service and ask where my delivery is as I have waited in all day and as yet it hasn’t arrive. The lady I spoke to said there was still time, even though there was only another 5 minutes before the end of the scheduled time. I asked her to call the depot and find out exactly where the van was and she said this wasn’t possible – you don’t have the facility to do this. She said that legally the drivers had to stop driving at 5.30pm so my items would definitely be there by then. I asked what time the department closed so, if in the event my items hadn’t arrive by 5.30, so I could call back. She informed me it was 6pm.

5.31pm – I again call the John Lewis Gift List customer services and again explain that my delivery has not turned up. The gentleman immediately says he’ll call dispatch and find out what has happened (this only fuelled my fire as the lady I previously spoke to said that you are not able to do this). He asked if I would mind holding, which I did...for 10 minutes, at which point he returned to the call and explained that he was on hold and could he call me back. I said this was fine, so long as he did before the close of day.
It is worth noting that each time I called it was to an 0845 number and therefore not included either on my free minutes of my mobile phone nor included on my ‘included’ minutes of my landline.

5.55pm – I receive a call from a different gentleman. He explained that they had got hold of the warehouse and the driver had ‘run out of time’ for his deliveries that day. I asked what he was going to do about this and he said that he could re-arrange another delivery for Monday. I explained that both my husband and I work full time and are therefore out in the daytime. He offered me a slot next Saturday (I have already waited 3 weeks for our gifts) which in actual fact isn’t convenient for us as we have alternative arrangements. He then asked me again what I would like him to do. Without knowing the options available to me, I have to say it is very difficult to answer that question. I said I would like my items tomorrow (being Sunday) and he said that wasn’t possible as you don’t offer a Sunday delivery service. He then put me on hold and spoke to someone and came back and again, asked me the question of what I would like him to do. By this point I’m really angry as he really didn’t offer any solutions. I then asked the golden question of are you able to deliver in weekday evenings to which he replied oh yes, we can certainly do that for you. Now, why wasn’t this offered in the first place?! So, I have re-scheduled the delivery between 7-9pm this evening, which isn’t particularly convenient as it will mean I have to leave work early to ensure I get home in time.

    Monday 7 November
9.31am – I receive a phone call from Park Royal warehouse, saying that my items will be with me THIS AFTERNOON! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. So I, once again, explained that I booked an evening delivery not an afternoon delivery slot and I was expecting the delivery between 7 and 9pm tonight. The lady said, oh, ok, I can book that for you. So, to me, it sounded as though either the wrong delivery slot had been booked or one hadn’t been booked at all.

I’ll wait to see if some/all/none of the items turn up tonight, but I have to say at this stage that I am very disappointed in the Gift List service. I had heard some bad reports regarding one of your competitors, which is why we decided to go with John Lewis in the end. I have to say that up to the last few days, I cannot fault your service. I have been kept up to date with items going out of stock/coming back in etc. as well as being helped last week with re-opening the list so a friend from Saudi Arabia could purchase something. This only adds to my disappointment and in fact anger at the whole situation. I was so looking forward to receiving our gifts over the weekend. It is the perfect way to end our wedding celebrations and now I just feel let down and deflated, which has really taken the edge off the experience.

On a separate note, it hasn’t been explained to me how we receive our gift vouchers that guests have bought for us via the gift list service. Are these included with the anticipated delivery this evening or will they be sent separately?

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest opportunity.

Then the problems went on - there were a few items missing so we had to go and pick them up from Oxford St - when we got them home one of the bowls was broken. I took pictures and they sent out a replacement. I was told the gift vouchers would be posted out to me - they were but no one told me that they had to be signed for, so they were sat in the sorting office for days with me waiting on them to be delivered.

With all the complaining and problems, they compensated us with a total of £125 in gift vouchers which we were promised jsut before Xmas last year. They didn't arrive and I wanted them in time for Dec 26 for the sales. I called them and they said that they hadn't been processed yet. I went mad, again - they'd had over 2 weeks to do it and get them out to us, even with the Xmas postage. So I asked them to get them authorised to Oxford St and we'd pick them up. They did this, but we had to wait til into January, by which point a lot of the bargains had gone and we had to wait for an HOUR to see someone in the gift list dept, just to pick the blooming things up! We were also sent an Xmas card from them with a voucher in to spend in their bistro for a main course each and a glass of wine.

Needless to say, it's left quite a sour taste in my mouth about them. The only good thing I have to say about the whole experience (apart from the compensation) was that there was one person in their gift list customer services team (telephone based) that was outstanding. She was the only person who hadn't lied to me in the whole place and kept me informed right along the way.

I wonder if they have got there act together or if its different in different regions
