I did that, then A list people fropped out after B list invitations were sent so will need to verbally bump people up to the A list once I receive their RSVP!

I wouldn't to be honest. Some people on list B might find out through it from somebody on list A and feel they are only being invited as a last resort or to make the numbers up which may upset them

I wouldn't think of a B list as last resort but those people you wanted to invite but couldn't because of the limitations of budget and space. Unless you were able to invite everyone you wanted no one on the B list will be used just to make up numbers.

We ended up sitting down and talking and being completely honest with two sets of our friends. And because they are the most amazing and understanding friends they were fine and said as long as they were there at some point in the day to celebrate with us they didn't care :) and they also said they wouldn't mind if some of our family drop out they wouldn't be offended being 'bumped' up into the day time! We have space for 93 and have invited 93! So far we have had my aunty and cousin drop out so thats one more couple invited! I agree with Samantha these people currently cant come due to limitations at the venue and the enormity of my family- we desperately want our friends there. xx

We are going to be doing this but will be honest with the people on the evening list re the bumping!!
Also going to send the invites early with an early rsvp too so if we do need to bump, people have plenty of notice rather than a few weeks

Yeah we did this. We had to, we just didn't have enough room to invite everyone we wanted to so had to make a choice, who was in the first list and then who we'd like to invite if we could. No shame in doing this at all. I think most people do it. xx

We will, but will tell people that invites are going out 'as we make them' and are sending them quite far in advance. We are only having fifty guests which are mostly family and close friends, so we see them all regularly so rsvping shouldn't be a problem..xx

We are having mainly family and let friends know that they are only getting an evening invite due to having big families. It annoys me that I have to invite people I don't know over people I actually want there! I hope that some do RSVP no so that I can bump.

We have managed to fit everyone we want there on our A list and still have three spaces to fill so if anyone can't come we will loose money but I wouldn't want to invite people for the sake of it. x

Good luck with organising it, I hope I didn't sound too harsh I just know somebody who did this and ended up causing a few guests to get really upset. Like one of the ladies suggested maybe say the invites are coming out as they've been made, or send to ones that you think may not be able to make it first. I would've thought you would get any cant make it responses quite quickly.

I hope you manage to get it sorted xx

    hi girls
no Debra no offense taken I worded it wrongly to start with the people on both lists are the people I want but numbers and money don't allow for everyone so the priority is close family and close friends and then after its distant family and friends that you would like there. It's so hard picking but i was going to send the day invites out first and see who says no then bump up then at a later date send night invites. I wouldnt want to upset anyone and the people on both lists know me well and they don't know there are two lists arrrgh this is making me sound horrid IM NOT honest!! i will say as i am doing my own invites that i am sending as i write though !!

i didnt have a list for those who cancelled but i had two couples in mind to upgrade and thankfully i only had to use the first couple as my grandma and grandad couldnt make it on the day due to ill health so i had to upgrade my friend who i wished i'd have invited anyway and his plus one!

I have a day and evening list. I won't be sending out the evening invites until the day invites are back, I've starred some of the evening guests as we'd like them at the day but no space. So far 9 people from the day list have been crossed off completely. No big fall out we just realised these people don't mean as much to us as we thought. It's amazing how feelings can change for people over a period of time. This sounds really awful but there is a colleague whom I was inviting because I didn't want her to be the only one in my office to not get invited, she's just told us shes leaving next month and my first thought was " great Seb can have her place". If it helps my case I do feel bad about it.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013

Shirleygirly, I like your strategy of not sending out evening invites until after the days have been sorted. Might be doing that myself now.

I have reserves because the day only fits essential family (those who if the're not invited would cause major problems) we don't have many friends coming but have a few in mind incase of drop outs -we've just been honest

We have a list of day guests and a list of evening only guests. If any of the day guests drop out,we have plenty from the evening list to choose from as we have had to cut so many good people out in the first place due to only having 75 day guests. :(
